Timothy Dalton's non-Bond films

Evidently historically opinions about Timothy Dalton's Bond is somewhat split down the middle- some people say the serious approach did not do the series any favours, but what do people think of his other non-007 films?

I thoroughly liked Flash Gordon and The Rocketeer, sadly both quite underrated.

He's very good in The Lion In Winter, but then EVERYONE'S good in that movie. Peter O'Toole chewing the scenery etc etc

I'm sure it isn't a popular one, but his role in The Beautician and the Beast was interesting in the kind of way that Sean Connery was interesting playing a Soviet in The Hunt for Red October. I always like Daltons sense of humor, especially in the Bond films. I'll have to rent Toy Story 3 when it comes out; Dalton portrays the voice of Mr. Pricklepants, whoever that is.

I think his best role is in Lynda La Plant's Framed, made not too long after his Bond stint. His acting is unforced and unhammy. He was also in a good film about the IRA I believe, 10 years ago or so.

The first time I saw Dalton was in the TV miniseries Centennial, and I thought he was great as a British immigrant who becomes a Colorado land baron. Also, remember his performance in Hot Fuzz a couple of years ago? Funny stuff there!
