Pierce Brosnan: Man On The Street

A nice article about Brosnan is in the new issue of GQ in the US. It discusses his Post-Bond acting and has some nice fashion shots of Brosnan in some new sharp suits, not your typical James Bond suits. I enjoyed the print version so I'd figure you guys would like to read it online.

He's slimmed down a lot. He looks good, could still be Bond now, eight years after DAD.

A little off topic but here is a link to a Brosnan interview:

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/celebritygossip/2010/02/pierce-brosnan-still-wants-to-be-james-bond.html

In the interview he says “They call me out, ‘Hey James, hey Bond,’ and I wear it with pride,” Brosnan said of his fans. “I had the greatest time in my life, making that character, being part of that franchise.”

That is one thing I really loved about PB, he seemed to be a true Bond fan in addition to being the actor portraying Bond.

In my book PB is a class act. -{. A lot like RM in that way.

PB is one of life's natural gentlmen just like sir Roger,If eon had taken the time to get some decent scripts and let him have the kind of input DC seems to be getting. IMHO his sauve playing of Bond is more to my liking than the rough diamond approche Of DC.

I really liked DC in Casino Royale, and QoS was ok, but leaves me a bit cold and disinterested. However, I watched Brosnan recently in TND (first Brozzer Bond for a few years) and thought how bloody good he was! Some on this site go on about him being a a bit of a GQ cover star, but so what? I am the first to admit I'm fickle, but Brosnan is right up there again as my favourite Bond.

My favorite Bond, I really enjoyed his take on Bond.

He looks great and seems to be doing very varied and topical stuff. Dont you think the best work of his acting career was in his non-Bond work, pre and post?

Strangely, I don't really rate him as an actor. With the exception of a handful of films (which are very good) I think he is largely a terrible actor with a limited range of emotion. I think he needs good scripts and direction and cannot simply carry a poor film (The Debt Collector, Nightwatch, DeathTrain - and god forbid Mamma Mia!- are prime examples). I do, however, enjoy all of his efforts as Bond and rate him highly. I think he was destined for Bond and did not let himself down.

I like the Daniel Craig persona of Bond. The gritty, more ruthless take is something that I feel has been severely lacking. It may not have as much of the suave debonair aspect, but it's a trade I'm willing to make. Truth be told, each of the Bonds have had their strengths and weaknesses with the character. DC is no exception, but on the whole I'm satisfied with his portrayal so far.

That said, I think Pierce did a great job as Bond, and how he was sort of kicked to the curb still leaves a bad taste...

I agree 100%. I like Daniel Craig a lot in the role, but I think Pierce made a terrific Bond, and I wish the producers had provided him with better scripts. I would say Goldeneye was the best, with The World is Not Enough a close second.

Bizarre stance though. He looks like he is about to take off.

I do have to say it's been a wonderful year for Brosnan. I loved Remember Me and Ghost Writer, his characters in both were created with a lot of depth.

I did crack a joke when he walks through a New York Art Museum in Remember Me, Hey he's stolen most of these. Ha, good ol' Thomas Crown.

See The Matador, which I believe will change your opinion.

I agree Matador is one of his best. I'd also recommend The Tailor of Panama.

I've always liked Pierce. Don't remember ever not. There are a few weak moments, (as in all Bond films!) ... but he always made me feel particularly "comfortable" in the role.

Same here. He had some great moments in the role. I recently watched Mamma Mia!, and was struck anew by how much screen presence the guy has...even if his singing sounds like the death throes of a hyena on the Serengeti.
