Tom Ford QoS Sunglasses question

What color lenses does DC wear in the movie?

I've read that he wears the blue lens model, but in every picture/snapshot from the movie, the lenses appear to be a dark gray almost black lens.

Can anyone with these sunglasses with the blue lenses post some real life pictures of themselves wearing these? I want to get a good sense of what they look like in real life.

The reason I'm asking is because I want to buy a pair, but undecided whether to go with blue lens or gray lens model.

Thanks in advance.

I asked the question several times on the forum and everyone seems to agree it's the blue lense, however they really don't seem to be blue.

I posted a few pics while wearing my TF sunglasses in the contest we had here a while back. You can see them in post #158 of this thread -

I think these pics are good examples of how they photograph. My glasses have the blue lenses. You can see close-up shots of them in post #32 of this thread -

I bought the gray lens model and he definately doesn't wear those in the movie. He wears the blue lens pair. I preferred to get the gray lens or rhodium ones simply because I wasn't sure how blue lenses would look with different colored clothing. I really like them though. You can always buy a pair and if you don't like them change out the lens. I was considering swapping my gray lens for some dark black lens sometime in the future.

    They look really nice.

I'm pretty sure now that I'll be getting the same colored lenses.

Is eBay the best place to get these?

100% agree with DBS. They look blue in the hand but put them on and photograph them they look brown.

Not sure about eBay pricing, but there's a one day sale at Gaffos for $199, same price as Beyond the Rack again until March 14th.

There are never Canadian deals. I think I will make a dedicated thread about Canadian offers. B-)

Here's a good screen cap showing off the blue:

Fair enough. I've been looking for evidence forever, now it's settled. They were blue.

I finally pulled the trigger on these today as I found a great price on Amazon - under $200.00 with a voucher I had. The retail price (and not much less when there were sales!) kept me away until now.

Would anyone care to comment on how these have worked out for them compared to other sunglasses they've owned? I'm just curious as to how they've held up, etc. I hope to enjoy them as it seems many of you have!

My honest opinion is they are not as good as my Oliver People's version. The TFs are nice and light but the clarity through the OPs are superior. When I go out I grab the OPs, but when I want to "be Bond" I grab the TFs.

    Thanks David.

I'm pretty sold on all of my Oliver Peoples sunglasses - the lenses really do spoil you! B-)

I really wanted the TF's from the standpoint of a Bond fan and I do like how they are a different look for an aviator.

Plus, I knew I'd kick myself if I waited until they are no longer available! You can still get them for a high price, but the one's on sale on the internet seem to get snapped up pretty quickly!

I wonder if/when these will be phased out of the collection...

Just sent my OP Airmans back for new lenses. I'm pretty rough on them. :#

Finally tried on the TF glasses in Atlanta, Bloomingdales I think it was. Anyway, I really like the continuous top bar design, but the overall shape not as much. Could be I'm just more used to the Airmans though. The lighter overall weight was strange, but I'm used to wearing glass lenses so that's probably the case with that. Polycarbonate scratches way too easy for me.

Hated the blue lenses. I like some contrast in my lenses. Most of mine have brown or rose colored lenses, but the grey lenses I do wear have a little green mixed in. Totally personal preference though.

Loved the matte silver color of the frame. My Airmans are toned down now, but when new they were pretty shiny.

The TF glasses would have to be a collector purchase for me, but for the price you got them, you can't go wrong.

ot: Red Indian, did I tell you I just got another pair of Victory 55 sunglasses? Silver with Rosewood. Right now this pair is getting more wear than my Burn Notice version. LOVE THIS FRAME!!

Gilt had a pretty amazing sale on Oliver Peoples sunglasses about a week and a half ago. The Airman's were there, although they went quick and I don't think any of the frame/lens combinations matched the one similar to the TF movie version. I did snatch up a pair of OP Nitros though... I believe they're the one Brad Pitt wears at the end of Mr. & Mrs Smith (although mine don't have yellow lenses thankfully lol)
  • KittlemeierKittlemeier U.S.Posts: 432MI6 Agent
Yeah, I remember seeing those a few days ago. I think it was the gradient lenses but I didn't look too closely when they didn't have the "correct" ones.

This frame looks good in the silver with grey/green but other colors I've seen are a little flashy. I actually picked up a pair of Airmans in gold with cognac lenses(Burn Notice colors) on ebay but ended up giving them to my dad. Just seemed to wear like shooters.
  • Red IndianRed Indian BostonPosts: 427MI6 Agent
Thanks for the info Kitt. Yes, at that price I couldn't say no!

The rosewood lenses are really nice - I have those too! I've really been liking that cognac lense - the visibility is unreal!

I "Frankensteined" my own QoS sunglasses a while back by having OP cut a platinum polarized lense for the silver Victory in 55. That color lense has a blue tint that looks pretty cool.

It is a great frame - incredibly versatile with all of the lense options! It never ends! B-)
  • KittlemeierKittlemeier U.S.Posts: 432MI6 Agent
Yeah, they are great. I'm thinking about one more pair in silver with the grey green lenses. What are those, Midnight Express? Anyway, it's the Mr and Mrs Smith style from the beginning of the movie. That would put me at four of the Victory glasses, two BN correct, one silver/rosewood, and the new one. WTH, I've a little left in the FSA, right?

I'm glad your QOS Victorys worked better than my BN Airmans. :))
  • Red IndianRed Indian BostonPosts: 427MI6 Agent
Mr. and Mrs. Smith is when I first saw the Victory!

I tried to get Oliver Peoples to tell me what the lense color was - they just said it was a custom lense that the production switched. I think the frame in the film is gold but they look silver in some shots.

I think it's the same frame that Pitt wore to the Oscars (he must have "borrowed" them from the set!) as that was the same time he was filming.

It looks more like a Ray Ban G-15 lense:

You could probably go with the midnight express (which is dark grey) in either color frame and it would look good.

I also have a pair of the gold frames with the emerald green polarized lenses - that pair looks like a set of retro-aviators.
