Just got my copy... simply one of the best Bond books ever published. I now only hope that this will start a series from the same author using the same concept. Must-have book for all Bond fans...
Hoping for "The making of Thunderball" next...

I'm really going to wear this one out, the most since I got Raymond Benson's JB Bedside Companion, complete with egg bits and coffee stains.

Thanks for that. The James Bond Bedside Companion was my first Bond reference book that I purchased, and it is a milestone. It was a huge influence on me, and thus it was a tremendous thrill to get this review of my book from Raymond Benson:

The depth of the research is jaw-dropping, the pictorial content is amazing, and
the labor of love that obviously went into this valuable addition to the Bondian
library is palpable. Charles Helfenstein has done a fabulous job illuminating one
of the greatest of all Bond films. Make all the time in the world to read it!

For anybody on the fence, Amazon US has discounted it now.

As an avid fan of all things OHMSS I decided to buy this book from Amazon without seeing it, as conventional bookshops don't seem to stock a copy.
It is worth forking out £46 for as it covers absolutely everything on The Making of OHMSS.
Even if you've seen and heard most of the OHMSS facts and images, this is on a greater comprehensive scale with tons of
colour photos I've not seen before and information on the decisions as they planned and made the film.
I thoroughly recommend getting it if you can affod it.
It's the encyclopedia on OHMSS but more interesting!
It was the Graham Rye glowing review that conviced me, as he's seen it all on Bond.

Bleuville. (paraphrase) "My informant is very plain. We're going to buy this book !" (not M in OHMSS.)

I'm glad to hear that....I've been bought a copy, from Amazon in Canada...and it's been shipped to someone there as shipping to the UK is expensive...just got to wait for it now :#

So Sir Miles - has your copy arrived yet? Or did it get waylaid by Blofeld's, err, I mean Iceland's volcano?

It has - but the people whom are bringing it for me don't travel to the UK until September...so I have to be a good little boy and learn patience :#

I am very eager to get my hands on this book and read it :D

This book is something of a must with me!
Fantastic research and photos. I return to the book over and over again for reference to all things OHMSS, and it is well worth the price!
The author has done a truly outstanding job, and we should all come to the aid of the party, and order ours today!

After buying it and just flipping through it, I recommended it to a friend of mine. We both think OHMSS is the best Bond film ever made, so I think he really should have this book as well! :)

    Hi doublenoughtspy

I have discover that you brought the living daylight leather jacket on an auction (posted on a competing board), could you please first confirm this and then perhaps post some photos of it and tell the brand of the jacket….

Only just got this book - shame on me!

This is the single most impressive James Bond book ever. Almost every page saw my eyes get wider and wider - I even swore at one point. So many rare pics, memorabilia, magazine and brochure covers.

This along with the rebirth of OO7 as a printed magazine is a dream come true.

Now, if only we could have EXACTLY the same style book on Thunderball...please!

I hate to say it, but I still have not gotten a copy myself. I've heard from a lot of people that it really is an excellent book. December is the perfect time to buy it.

Well, I finally got my copy and all I can say is wow! An excellent purchase for December and the Christmas season. The pictures alone are worth the purchase price. In a quick perusal, I found the maker of Lazenby's kilt, and why that particular pattern was chosen! Excellent! Every Bond collector or afficianado should have a copy. I can't wait to read it cover to cover. Mr Helfenstein knocked it out of the park and took the cover off the ball while he was at it! A book that was long overdue, thank you Sir.

I have to respectfully agree with Mr. Grant here:

The book has been done with the same amount of passion which drove Peter Hunt after all the long years only on the cutting table!

If you never have cared about OHMSS, read the book and you'll see the light! :D

The book is a jewel just like OHMSS is. It's growing on me on every viewing!

Every spent a significant amount on some book, or whatever, and been dissappointed as it adds nothing to your knowledge? This is not that book. Without a doubt this is the best bond book I've ever read. Its everything that the "official making of" books should be but never are. Being a resident of Australia, we are used to having to fork over a lot of money for books so this one seemed quite reasonable.
BTW was anybody else dissappointed with the 007 Screen Test game because you found it just too easy?

I've only heard good things about this book. Where did you buy it from CarsonDyle? I'm looking for a cheap new copy, but books in Aus are EXPENSIVE. Book Depository is $62. :#

I was watching the Ice Carnival part of OHMSS whn Bond tries to lose himself in the crowd from Irma Bunt and the SPECTRE guards. Just after they get into the black Mercedes there is a short bit of film where the back of the car drives away to the left. I suddenly noticed the view was reversed-the number plate and the CH (for Switzerland) were sideways reversed.

It's only for a couple of seconds but wonder how this happened? is it an editor's mistake?
The copy of the film CD is the Ultimate version sold in the UK.

I wonder if there are any other reversed image examples in the Bond films ?

Bleuville. "How do we get out of here?"

I just bought mine from Amazon. Like I said it seemed a reasonable price for the research that went into it and the info provided. Look, I paid well over A$100 fro "Dressed to Kill" so I guess its what you are used to.

One slight hiccup in You Only Live Twice, is that in one sequence it appears that Sean Connery is driving the Toyota, not so – the car was supposedly “driven” by his Japanese aide, Aki (played by Akiko Wakabayashi). When they arrive at Dikko Henderson’s, a negative reversal makes it appear that Connery is in the driving seat (nearest to the building), however, after arriving and walking towards the camera (having passed through glass doors), the Toyota can be seen facing left, with the passenger door to the building/camera.

Is there any in-depth information on the wedding ring from the film? Who made it, any hi-res pics etc..

Just came across with this old thread.

The original maker was a bloke Named Charled de Temple who had a shop in London, Bond Street.
He did also a lot of jewellery for Louis Maxwell in the Bond movies.

I have been able to recreate the ring - it looks like that:
