S.T. Dupont Cufflink Measurements?

Does anyone have the measurements for these cufflinks? I was considering having them replicated, as they are a fairly sought after item and no one really has 2500 bucks to drop on them. If there's enough interest, it could be done....same goes for the diamond heads. Materials used are up to debate...so if anyone is interested post here. I know I want my own pair..:)

Would look for a supplier for both the diamond-head pattern and the poker scene ones if there was enough interest, but I'd imagine the poker scene ones are most sought, so those to begin with :007)

Replicas would cost more than the originals to make due to the tooling, especially the diamond heads. It is a very very expensive process.

They are nothing like the screen seen ones, too short, wide and fat with completely wrong stem and button. The Duponts are much slimmer, longer and flatter.

I wouldn't buy a copy, and don't think you'll get platinum for 28$ minus their eBay fees.

I would also like to see an identical "replica" being made of the Dupont "Bond Coffin" cufflinks....perhaps in sterling silver or even white-gold. I know you get what you pay for but $2,100 - $3,000.00 is a bit expensive for my wallet.

I have a couple custom jewelers that wouldn't mind a bit of a challenge.....

These are my sentiments. It's not all too difficult to have a mold created for some silver links. If no one's interested, no biggie.

Nobody wants $3,000 cufflinks. The ST Dupont are not even close to that price and it's not everybody that would buy them.

Toutbrun, it's evident you're not interested, but why try to discredit the idea? http://lightersdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=11902

I think people would buy nice repros in silver....bond collectors and lovers of nice cufflinks. I'd wear them to work simply because the design is nice.

Anyway, if anyone has measurements, I'm trying to get a quote on production.

Seems a good idea to me. $2,000+ high end items, diffficult, $28 low end items, you get what you pay for.

If Dupont or others did a $200 item I'm sure they would sell more than a few, just as they did with the diamond head ones.

If anyone can provide measurements of the original links, at least I could get a quote (would need these for the gram weight of the links...) and report back with a general idea. Then we can gauge interest and see who wants to sign on, like with the bond credit card, money clip, etc.

I think it is a good idea. If I had the correct dimensions of the 'coffins', I would have CNC machined them from stainless steel and polished them mirror shine.

I think we should start a list of folks interested in having a set made. I think a pair of highly polished stainless steel or in sterling silver would be great. I am suprised Indy hasn't already advanced on this.....I have also heard the current repro sets out there are out of portion and just don't look correct.

Perhaps there is a Member here that owns an original pair that wouldn't mind some accurate measurements, weights, etc. ? NO "007" logo on them.....I don't want that on my replicas.

The coffin shaped ones have a 50/50 brushed / polished finish (on the main part).

I hope you won't put the 007 logo. Sorry, I thought you wanted to make a $2000 replica, but in fact you want a cheaper one. I support the idea. But I hate 007 logos. Hope to buy a pair if it works out. Count me in.

No 007 logo...I think that's a little tacky. Just a nice, clean looking cufflink :007). Personally, I think stainless steel would be a good choice. More affordable than silver, durable, nice looking.

Anyway, first things first. Measurements would be appreciated so I could get a quote on the OEM mold and estimated price.

Palladium is a bit more expensive but is more interesting than stainless.

Did anything ever come from this?

If not, can we get something started again? I'm definitely interested.

I was just quoted a price for these cufflinks that I simply can't afford, so going down this road is probably my best (if not, only) bet to securing a set.
  • Mister GreeneMister Greene Posts: 224MI6 Agent
there has to be someone that can make them out of silver for a more reasonable price. i think 200 is the tops i would ever pay for these and that is the upper end

I think I would pay what S.T. Dupont sell their cufflinks at currently. I just bought a pair of the other CR cufflinks for £140 - that's fair to me.

It's not like it's a difficult shape to replicate, it's really quite simple. All we need is measurements.
  • MacMac Glasgow, ScotlandPosts: 143MI6 Agent
Just sent an email to S.T. Dupont USA to ask if they had any in stock (a long shot, I know), but if not, would they consider making a re-run of an identical kind without the '007' emblem because I know of a lot of people who would be interested in purchasing a set.

I also asked for the exact measurements of the cufflinks.

I'll let you know if I get a reply.

    VESPER65,

Yes, I've seen those before and while they look great for the price they're not as accurate as some people (myself included) would like.

I've emailed a few other companies asking for measurements. I'll keep this thread updated.

Do we have any jewellers that would be open to making a mould for the cufflinks?
  • VESPER65VESPER65 UKPosts: 60MI6 Agent
St Dupont actually released two versions of the CR cufflinks. The first one was already in distribution prior to the EON license agreement and the only difference between the two was the ST Dupont embossment on the cufflinks being relaced by the 007 embossment for the CR version. Manufacture of the original set ceased once the license agreement kicked in. I can't remember the ST Dupont serial number but will have a look through the paperwork and update the thread later. I purchased a pair from ebay earlier in the year for £200 (will also upload photos later) and they are the real mccoy, so it may be worth having a look around some of the ST Dupont dealers to see if there are any more kicking around. Worth searching as they are a fraction of the CR version and if you don't wish to 007 logo then they are ideal.
  • MacMac Glasgow, ScotlandPosts: 143MI6 Agent
    Thanks for that.

    Don't suppose you're selling yours? :D

If you could let me know by PM or on this thread what the serial number/model number is, I'd be delighted. I know the CR set model number is 5244.
