Moore vs Craig (a Youthful Analysis!)

When Roger Moore took on the role of Bond in LALD he was 45. When Daniel Craig starred in CR he was 38.

Moore looked no older than 30 in the 1970s, and even now could still pull off being Bond. He looks 49 and not a day older!

Here is a pic of Moore in his prime:

roger_moore_lald.jpg

And he has aged well too:

roger_moore_2127238.jpg

Yet Craig looks at least 59 here: DanielCraig.jpg

Sir Rog has always aged well and if one thing's certain in Bond, it is this: the actor should be charistmatic, believable and relatively youthful looking. I cannot believe Eon allowed the likes of Dalton, Brosnan and Craig to take the role of Bond. I am dissapointed that more members here aren't petitioning Eon to re-instate Moore to star in Bond23. He should also be given the chance to rectify the appalling films that took place after 1985. GoldenEye with Brosnan was a pitiful 0/10, we needed Moore to star in that, to bring it up to at least an 8.

Anyway, one thing is certain: real fans want the Bond franchise to flourish. It cannot happen unless Sir Rog is reinstated with immediate effect.

I'm quite serious, and any REAL fan of Bond would understand that Sir Rog was the only decent actor to portray him.

I am certain even Ian Fleming himself would have been disgusted with the franchise had he lived long enough to see what codswallop it become after 1985. Connery did an ok job before Moore, but ideally, Moore should have been in from 1962- onwards.

Add me to the "hope you're joking" crowd. Of course, I like Roger Moore and on the whole I enjoy his Bond films, but as a card-carrying REAL James Bond fan of nearly thirty years standing, I have to say Moore's characterization of 007--outside For Your Eyes Only and a few select scenes in his other films--was about as far from Ian Fleming's creation as you could get. And I think Fleming, who was indifferent at best to the Bond films he lived to see, would have been appalled by the way his stories were mangled and even thrown away in all but one film made after 1965, and the outlandish humor of the 1970s would have offended him. So, sorry, gotta disagree with everything you say!

Narrow minded, Hardyboy, very narrow minded. You seem to forget that the grey (or should that be gray?) army is about to make up several battalions and that baby boomers are reaching the time of life when they would be a willing audience for the adventures of an octogenarian - who could bring new meaning to Octopussy. As for the youth audience, they are being syphoned off into computer games, iPads and so on and the cinema does not represent the future for them.

Scashman is right on the money, it's the grey pound that is going to count from now on - they have the savings while young un's are scrimping and saving, and what goes around comes around. Why, even Sir Rog's spectacles, which a few years ago would have elicited a cry of "Should have gone to Specssavers!" are now the height of geek chic. B-)

As for that hack Ian Fleming - okay, hack is a bit strong, but it's obvious he was just eeking it out towards the end - well, not being alive he is in no position to voice an opinion.

Moore's characterisation of Bond was legendary. His performance alone in Octopussy was nothing short of Oscar winning. When I watched it the first time, in the scene where he warns everyone in the circus that the device was going to go at any moment, my heart skipped a beat! He brought something to Bond that no other actor could even HOPE to achieve.

Sadly, Fleming passed before he could view Moore, but had he been able to he would (I am 100% certain) that he would have DEMANDED Eon make Moore stay until ALL Bond films would have been completed.

And Moore's humour brought a sense of flair to the role, as all other portrayals have been dull and boring. As a fan of the franchise I am shocked and appalled no one has petitioned Eon into reinstating Sir Rog for Bond23!

I'm not sure everyone's receiving you on the proper frequency, Scash :)) I for one would pay to see ol Rog make that construction crane jump in CR, to say nothing of bursting through the drywall. With more repetition over the years, his stunt-doubling could only have become more seamless.

    Good post :))

The thing is my good man, is that so many people were against having Sir Rog in the role in the first place, let alone giving him the chance to star as Bond once again. He was the ONLY credible actor for the role and I cannot honestly believe a real fan would even suggest otherwise! I have watched the Bond movies from start to finish several times now, and my belief in this only gets stronger with each run.

    Update:

PROOF Sir Rog can still act as a believable Bond: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o4IDZtj5WA

It's only a short advert but it prooves the case for re-instatement nevertheless.

Even though a few people have had a good chuckle over the idea of Moore being Bond once more, this is because they are semi-serious fans of the franchise.

I am sure Ian Fleming would agree with ALL my assertions regarding the casting of Bond. Period.
