With all due respect to JD, but a watch expert is not the same as a expert on Bond watches.
In my book, DG is tops on Bond watches.
Why thank you, that's quite the endorsement from a man who collects rare and vintage Bond items. Not to mention the meticulous detail you've put into the research of such arcane items as FRWL Orient Express train schedules and the like. Sid, I'm honored.

So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.

Oh I totally agree....the amount of research you have done on the Bond watches does make you and expert and I appreciate the work, effort and passion gone into the project. I guess I was just asking about the dial/face itself (did it leave the Rolex factory with gold highlights and markers or does it look "gold" on screen because the lighting or age of the watch?) and I just mention timezone as another possible reference point....didn't mean to insult! I also have owned (and own) a few original Submariners and am a fan of Rolex, I found the Members of Timezone to be helpful and would offer honest insight on your project. Cheers.
The movie watches had a gilt dial and gilt hands. The depth rating is the only thing that's debatable. I go back and forth on this myself. Sometimes, to my eye, the depth appears white or silver like the way the Kingston has been realized. Other times it looks gilt. Make your choice. Again, I think having the original watch would answer many questions. Guessing, no matter how educated, can ever be definitive.

Also as a plank-owner, completed my order a few days back. Gone for spec as DG has stated, but with the red triangle on the bezel insert. Not going for movie accuracy, just like the look of it:) Wasn't sure about the C3 as Bill seems to favour the alternative and has ordered less parts in C3, from what i have read. Just logged on and quite nice to see the general opinion is for c3. Just looked good with the gilt hands IMHO.

Yes, there is somthing about that red triangle on the insert. It calls out to me too. Perhaps it will make it into my parts part of the order open to plank owners.

So, although conventional wisdom says the 6538 was Connery's Rolex Submariner, it's just an educated guess. The definitive answer will only come with the examination of the original watch, if it still exists.
I like the motivation of you guys BUT I might post a few questions on a Board that is specific toward vintage Rolex watches. No one can beat James Dowling...he is a regular poster on Timezone.
Sounds logical to me...in short of having in hand the original watch, not even a James Dowling can conclusively identify the Rolex model that Connery wore in GF, let alone confirm if all the parts came from a single model...and anyway, that is all an aside; this discussion is not about making yet another Bond Rolex fake. This tread is about a homage watch that some of us here have on order and are eagerly waiting for. In sharp contrast with a fake, I'll have infinitely more confidence in the construction and craftsmanship of this particular homage watch. More importantly considering the concerns and issues surrounding Rolex fakes, I would actually have pride and a clear conscience to wear a homage watch in public, which is the next best thing to owning a genuine Bond sub.
I found this info which suggests that the Bond Submariner was a 5508.
I think for the most part it looks great, but I'm not crazy about the metal bordering the indices. None of the originals had that. It was one of the things that bothered me about the newer sub no-date that I bought a number of years ago. I just found it too reflective!
I was going to dive in anyway, but I received an email from MK II that stated I might not take delivery until 1st Q 2011! I think I'll put the funds toward another vintage Sub!
I can't wait to see pics when all of you guys get yours!
I remember when he was a guest on a British talk show (Parkinson maybe?) and he pulled off the watch he was wearing and gave it to the host for charity.
I probably would have said "I couldn't possibly" at first, but come on! How often does Daniel Craig offer you the watch he's wearing?

Hi Red, yes I read that article about DC offering his Rolex GMT to a fan of his, quite bizarre really - I'd have taken it without hesitation
Bill is almost finished with the 1st 50 non date BGW9s. You are in the next batch of 50 non date C3s. You are no. 10 on that batch of 50. Thank you for your patience.
Regards,
Winnie

Soon I guess .... not soon enough though -{
That's excellent news. I did not get that email. However, that's probably because my Kingston has a much higher number than yours. Been jones-ing for this ever since Christmas when these were supposed to start shipping. Even though the anticipated delivery was forestalled because of the crown/stem problem, I saw no reason to pile on Bill like some did over at the WUS MKII forum. Bill had already provided me with two great watches, so I knew it was just a matter of time. Patience is a virtue they say.
Kan, lucky dog you. Please post pictures as soon as you get it.

I confirmed my shipping address, so hopefully I'll have the Kingston in my hot little hands soon.

Congrats! Looks like you will have one before me DG -{
We shall see. Either way, it does not matter. As long as someone in the Bond community gets theirs and posts pictures here ASAP, I'll be happy. Fingers crossed for all of us! I'll be just as psyched for any of us. This reminds me of that old Heinz ketchup commercial where the youngster is tortured by the incredibly slow pour of the ketchup onto the hamburger, "Anticipation, it's making me wait." I'm betting the Kingston will be just as tasty.

Cynically - and I AM the world's biggest cynic - I wonder how many of these might, amazingly, find themselves with nice new 6538 Rolex dials within a few weeks of their arrival on the owners door mat.
