Bond No Longer Most Successful Franchise

Gads--I signed on to my computer, and staring at me was this news:

http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/lifeslittlemysteries-what-is-the-most-successful-movie-franchise-of-all-time.html

Yep, the six Harry Potter films--released just a few years apart--have managed to eclipse the 22 James Bond films, released over a forty-year span! Quick: check your scriptures. . .I'm sure this is a sign of the Apocalypse!

Just a speed-bump...with only eight Potter films altogether, the tortoise will overtake the hare in the end B-)

And naturally I await NP's entendre rejoiner:

It said not adjusted for inflation. So if they did so, I'd bet Bond would win. As the saying goes, "statistics don't lie but liars use statistics". Sensationalist horse hokey! Bond is still the most successfull franchise in cinema history no matter how you slice it. Harry Potter indeed!

Eh? I've wracked my mind for a double entendre but find none.

Surely this stat is a load of old pony (cockney rhyming slang, pony + trap = cr@p). It doesn't take into account inflation. It's like saying, hey, I earn 20 times more a week than my granddad did - he was on £50 a week. Or how every year there's a new blockbuster film that's the highest grossing ever, or has broken new records... yeah, that's cos ticket prices have gone up. 8-) It shows the same financial acumen that got us into the current crisis.

Right on target! A better indicator would be the number of tickets sold since 1962 for JB....

True. I am sure that JB is more successful than HP when you look at those statistics. Even so, give Bond a few more runs over the next several years and Loeff is right, the tortoise will overtake the hare. James Bond won't stop for a while yet, while HP only has a couple years left on its lifeline.

Funny that both are British characters though...is there something to that? :D

Yes, as with HB, the first thing my bleary eyes saw after opening my computer this morning. Like what NP said, it's all fanciful manipulation of statistics and just one more example of lazy and sensational journalism. The then author takes it another step in treating readers like they're stupid by twice stating the disclamer that the figures aren't adjusted for inflation (feigning with the obvious), or otherwise the Bond and SW franchises would have easily overtaken HP, but what exactly are those amounts? Listing those would have quickly deflated the article on the spot.

When comparing profitability that occurred across a wide span of time, in this case decades, what's the point of stating figures that aren't adjusted for inflation? For his journalistic achievments, this reporter should be given a hefty raise of $200,000 a year, but in 2050 AD dollars, and forced to live on it. EDIT: That amount would actually be around 70 grand, which is not bad at all, LOL.

By the time Bond 23 is ready for filming, 'Harry Potter' Daniel Radcliffe will have grown into a convincing Bond actor.

Daniel Craig could still play a soon-to-retire 'M'.

According to our friend theScashman DC could already play a retired M...but possibly once the MGM debacle is figured out we can call on Sir Rog again :D

Evidently you're not a Potter fan...I'm very glad they're expanding Deathly Hallows into two films---there's more than enough story for it...
