James Bond's Aston Martin goes under the hammer
The actual 1964 Aston Martin DB5 driven by Sean Connery in Goldfinger and Thunderball will be sold by RM Auctions and Sotheby's in London on October 27.
It’s believed that the highest bidder will have to shell out around £3.4 million before driving off with the iconic car.
The DB5 is one of two original 007 Astons and the only surviving model from the films. It features the full set of modifications and gadgets as fitted to the car by Q.
Originally conceived by special effects expert John Stears, the DB5 is kitted out with mock machine guns, a bullet-proof rear shield, revolving number plates, an oil slick sprayer, a nail spreader and, of course, a removable roof panel for the famous ejector seat.
All of the gadgets are controlled by toggles and switches hidden beneath the centre arm rest.
The DB5 was loaned to film maker Eon for the production of each Bond film. It was then returned to the Aston Martin factory after a promotional tour.
US radio broadcaster, Jerry Lee, bought the car from Aston for £8.1m in 1969 and has kept it ever since. Lee operates his own charity foundation dedicated to tackling crime and poverty, to which he plans to donate the proceeds of the sale.
Lee recently commissioned RM's restoration arm to restore the DB5 to running condition, following years of static display at his home.
The car will appear at the James Boned-themed Midsummer Classic Thunderball concours on June 26 at the Stoke Park Club near London, which was the setting for the first confrontation between Bond and the villain Goldfinger in the 1964 film.
