Just back within the hour from Collectors' Day at the Florida Museum of Natural History. Had about 3,000 visitors come through to see a few Bond things at my table...

And my son hosted his LEGO Bionicles table next to mine--Ben is 13 and following dad's footsteps with the media. Very proud:

    Museum_09_116.jpg

A great surprise was some fellow OO7 crazies came to visit - Carlos Perez, a very knowledgeable fan who I couldn't stump with my trivia questions, Richard Karcher, who has one of the top Bond poster collections in the world, Bob Smith, whose sporting collectibles store was the sponsor for the big show with 120 collectors in attendance, and my pal Frank Herbert, who cruised with my Bond Collectors' Weekend 9 to The Bahamas for stuff like going INSIDE Largo's home and to Sean Connery's home and dozens of locations from almost ten Bond books and films...

...The point being my shining Factory Entertainment Golden Gun was the hit of the show and many kudos to FE. The fellows who visited know their Bond like very few folks, and some own the SD piece also--and all of us all acknowledge Steve D. and Ed M. made unbelievable, enduring achivements with their props, their Golden Gun and Attaché Case are absolute legends along with so many other things--but the FE Golden Gun is very, very good also.

FE has been great on this thread and I've rarely seen a company handle criticism (constructive and/or harsh) so well. The extra bullets and the beautiful packaging were very appreciated--but especially those bullets--after all, Scaramanga has six different Bonds to kill between '62 and '12 so six bullets is a help!

Yes, I waited months for my gun. It was worth the wait, and if you're still plowing through a few issues use a little humor to maintain your perspective. Here's a favorite of mine from an old alt.fan post:

    "He has some powerful dentures,
They cost him a million a tooth,
A senior citizen who's second to none,
The man with the golden gums...

    Lurking in some dark doorway,
Or crouched in his wheelchair somewhere,
Close to his tomb, but he's still having fun,
The man with the golden gums...

    Turkey surprise-a or french-a fries-a,
He eats them till he gets his fill,
No one can match him, no dentist can catch him,
    He never needs them drilled...

One golden munch means another piece of chicken,
Has come to a glittering end,
Give him a plate of rice and he'll outpace anyone,
The man with the golden gums...

He never needs Tums... with his golden gums...!

After much deliberation i decided i would remove the red plug, one way or another. The thing was 1/4" deep and glued at the bottom. Total PITA to take out. I thought for sure i had messed up a few times but other than a few nicks it looks good. Taking it out is not for the timid. I had to start with a 1/16" drill and go all the way up to one size below the barrel size. I did it by hand with welding gloves. The glue is some tough crap. I never did get through it all the way and there is a tiny bit of red still left. I guess i could have tried one more drill size but i worried about taking out the plating. Honestly i decided i would rather have a few scratches than that toy looking plug. I cut a tiny black styrene disc and stuck it in too. It worked out because the leftover plug holds the disc in.
I'm a bit happier with it now .

You're braver than I was! I just stuck a black sticker over it. I thought about removing it but as you say I was afraid of scratching it.

is it true that the real golden gun actually had a barrel that was split down the length that folded out, unfurling a small red flag with 'bang!' written on it?

Received my replacement inner and outer box and a new 007 bullet today; and I have to say I have nothing but praise for the FE team, things may not have been spot-on initially but they seem to have taken any criticism on the chin and in my case any problems have been sorted without question or complaint.

Oh and Barry, if you want someone to monitor quality in China in the future, you have my contact details, it's just across the boarder for me, I'd love to get involved!

Hey Jeff, have you got some insider knowledge from the props guys. You have just let out a surprisingly little known fact about the original GG. Everyone goes on about the shimmer of the gold, is the pen dead accurate, why didn't we get two cufflinks, it's too light etc etc BUT the reason it's too light is that FE didn't research the prop enough to incorporate the BANG Flag feature, which was an inside joke between RM and CL, and before you SD lovers jump all over this, nor did Steve. In fact What you have uncovered has even passed our own Q (Ed) by as he has never mentioned this, I thought I was part of a very exclusive club, and now you go blurting it all over AJB, Thanks Jeff :p

    Nice one Ed :)) :))

isnt that the same pistol used in GOLDMEMBER by the hot
babes who shoot at Austin powers and his father :p

As for the Golden Gun having a Trick / Bang flag that came out of it :v

I have it, from a high source, that they used the flag function from Mr. Wint & Kid's TRICK Bang'' Gun, from DAF... :D

Can you confirm if the red plastic cap is glued in to the barrel or just pushed in.

Very pleased with my SE GG apart from the standard box damage and Plaque Missing. Contacted Factory Ent and they replaced the plaque and arrived it within a couple of weeks.
Pleased with the first one so ordered a second one and pleased with that one also. Apart from the obvious problems with the boxes/sleaves.

Me too should be any day now hopefully. Why oh why didn't they make this red plug thing more simple to remove. I know they got it there so customs know its not a real firearm, but they could atleast make it easy to remove!

CJ, I thought you would be the type that likes a plug :v :D

Too right but only wall plugs which belong in a wall, anywhere i else i find offensive. Like in a gun tut!
