New to me - Armalite AR-7

I picked this up this week. I have always wanted an AR7 and to get one in the right color was thrilling. This one came in it's original box, with manual. Also included were two pages torn from a 1966 American Rifleman, an article on the rifle and detailed breakdown instructions.

Now all I need is a suppressor and a scope!

    nice find there pal!

i picked up my xmas present the other day, which was from a great mate of mine (you know who you are) and to be honest, i was really surprised at how good it is. Its not bad, even with open sights, and considering I hadn't shot for a while, or used this gun before, I got a grouping of about 4" at 25yds. the only down side is the modern version is all plastic, even the barrel, but on the plus side it doesn't jam as much as the original version :v

think i'll have to get the chisels out and knock together a wooden stock.

anyone know the legalities of importing a steel barrel for my ar-7 into the UK? i'm guessing as long as I go through a licenced gun dealer I should be ok? :s

Variation required on FAC to obtain additional barrel.

Why not have the barrel threaded properly and get a REAL suppressor? I have a Gemtech 22lr Outback suppressor and its very nice and quiet. It is NOT difficult to properly (legally) obtain a suppressor.

I can help you find a Class III Dealer in your area and can guide you through the process. It might cost you a bit more than a fake one but for the time and trouble, it will be much more fun!

    Basic Costs:

Suppressor (take a look at the Gemtech Outback II): $350.00
ATF Transfer Fee (One time Tax): $200.00
    Class III fee: $50.00
Thread your exsiting barrel (with thread protector): $100.00
Price of the "coolness factor" = Priceless.

    Cheers.

another 6 months of waiting and no shooting for plod to sort that out? plus another £26 out my pocket......

tar. but no tar all the same pc blunderbus :o

i'd forgotten that just a barrel alone is classified as a firearm (hence the variation needed i guess) so i'll pass up on it.

What are the regulations for owning an AR-7 in the UK? Are they legal and where would I get one? I am hoping that FE are going to do an Attache case from FRWL and I would love to have an AR-7 to go with it. Alternatively, where is the best place to get a deactivated AR-7 and would I have to follow any regulations?

tim, you'll need to have a firearms licence to buy an ar-7, however you can get one deactivated without a FAC.

try andy at www.deactivated-guns.co.uk , its where mine came from, excellent service, plus they deactivate to order too.

it depends on your location though as some police forces won't issue tickets for an ar-7. i've even heard of devon police actually stating successful applicants are "permitted to purchase a rifle of .22 calibre, but NOT an ar-7".

on second thoughts tim, you might find that to comply with home office standards, a deactivated ar-7 might be welded up assembled, so any ideas of fitting it in a case are well out.

you wouldn't be able to store a live one in a case anyway, so chose carefully before opening that wallet.

making a replica is also illegal, so be careful.

I am jealous, that is an amazing find and to have the box as well after all these years.
that is one of the guns I have always wanted to get but never picked up, so I think I will be at the next local gun show and see what I can find.

Thanks minigeff it looks as though if I ever get a replica attache case it will have to be without the AR-7, perhaps i'll just stick to the club talc. Besides if FE ever do get around to producing the case I suspect I would have problems getting it through customs what with the throwing knives!

Hi guys. I thought you might like to see this. It was made by Mebetoys (Italy) and even mentions James Bond in the instructions
Even better, you do not need a licence for it. However the bad news is that it is probably rarer than the real thing!

That is very cool. I have a penchant for collecting myself. I have a tendancy for collecting older things as opposed to newer things, although I do that too. That old AR-7 toy with obvious James Bond/Spy reference is an exceptional piece. I've never seen one before. Hold on to it.
