Thunderball Bomb Sled

Was trawling around today and came across this:

Some of you may already have seen this, but I hadn't. McClory has a lot to answer for. Also the ditching model of the Vulcan also ended up on his estate but I have recently heard (Unconfirmed) that it was rescued and is now in the hands of http://www.vulcantothesky.org/ which would be a fitting home.

GM, I believe that there were 2, possibly 3 of these Vulcan models made. I remember quite a few years ago reading of an upcoming auction (in FlyPast magazine) where they were to be sold off at North Weald airfield. I couldn't make it to the auction (for some reason) but mentioned it to Dave Worrall, who attended and reported it in one of the 007 Collectors mags that he ran at the time.

Yes, one of them went to the Vulcan to the sky team and I saw it displayed at Duxford a few years ago (along with both Chitty and the Jag from DAD) painted to represent XH558 (so no longer in white), not sure if I can lay my hand on any photos that I took, but will look.

Thanks Mark for the confirmation. Although the original livery of the Vulcan was, as you say, anti flash white none of the Thunderball aircraft were (we had entered an era of low level attack profiles by then, hence the camo paintwork) Are you saying some of the the models had been repainted white after the movie was made? The only photo I saw of one of the original models was in the book "The Battle for Bond" and it was still camoflaged then.

Sorry GM, just my lousy memory (it happens at my age).

Anyone see the Vulcan Bomber at Leuchars airshow today? It was a mighty impressive sight and sound!

I get to see it most weekends where I live, transitting from homebase to airshows various. Wonderfully evocative sight. Also last evening I attended a Battle of Britain Ball on a Royal Air Force station and was treated to a private display by a Spitfire which most definately pulled out all the stops. {[]

Unfortunately I didn't. Forgot to pick up my camera before I left the house. :#
