As weak as the movie might be, TND is far from being the worst Bond movie. That honor is shared by DAF, TMWTGG and AVTAK, aka The One Where Moore's Stuntmen Are Too Obvious (superb? give me a break...).
And DAD's not too bad, at least until they get to Iceland, at which point it became a tribute to the 70's Bond. But I liked DAD overall, so...
And LTK is the best Bond film of the 80's. 'Nuff said.
TND for me has improved with time- despite the criticisms I like it more now than before. Perhaps it could have done without Carver's 'hiya' mockery of Wai Lin which dents the villain's effectiveness somewhat, but the villain has a good demise- in the tradition of Bond there is no emphasis on gore- I'm fine with gore in other films, but it rarely sits well in Bond.
Moonraker does boast some of the best moments of the whole series (the centrifuge, Corinne getting mauled, the shuttle hijack right at the beginning is terrific, and even Jaws transition from baddie to goodie has some intrigue) and I don't knock it solely on the grounds for which people generally so quickly knock the film- tighter editing could have improved it perhaps to save the effective scenes that are wasted on a gag. In the spirit of how it was seen by many at the time, it is a fun extravaganza that is often nice to look at.
Brosnan just hasn't withstood the test of time for me. Shortly after his departure, my opinion of him began to slide and has continued to do so.
I originally liked the Brosnan bits that were so Bond self-aware, but with time, I began to be repelled by them.
Though, tastes differ for all. While we have a great time going round and round about the best and worst actor and best or worst film, they all have positives and negatives, and are all part of the same fantastic series.
Its disheartening but interesting to read fellow Bond fans opinion's on TND's, especially the immense disdain alot have for it because its in my top 3 favorite Bond films. I loved it when i first watched it and my love for it has only grown, i definitely understand how some could hate it but i think its a solid film, incredible score by David Arnold, brilliantly edited, and exciting action scenes, possibly Brosnan's best Bond performance, and a plot appropriate for the modern era. Its just a fun, entertaining film, to me anyway.
well I'm with you walther p99, TND is a fun movie for me it captured some of the excitement from the 60's era. Not all Bond's have to be played stone faced, with loads of inner turmoil for Bond. Sometimes I just want to have a fun outing, even V Armstrong world famous stuntman and director said it was his favourite Bond movie he's worked on. It harks back to the big spectical Bonds of the 70's :007)
