    You sure have an amazing collection mate {[]

    Btw, could someone tell how many cases S.D. Studios made? A hundred? or maybe less?

    100 made…but what would the marked be if they still were produced??? – I have never seen one on ebay, but could imagine that the price would be astronomic

    I love the case !!!

    I know the owners of about 20 of the 100.

    I've only ever seen 2 on ebay and know of another 4 or 5 that were sold from collector to collector.

    The ones that were sold went for $10,000.00 USD

    Several times I've heard of fans attempt to replicate the case and there are at least 3 currently researching to duplicate it but nobody has, of yet, gotten very far with their attempts.

    I know it appears a simple enough item to build but there are so many variables in its construction that I think it causes fans to hit a roadblock. The primary reason Steve was so successful in duplicating it was that we had THE original case to study for duplication. Additionally, we met and spoke with both Syd Cain and Albert Luxford (who designed and built the attache') at a meeting in Pinewood studios to discuss the case.

    just goes to show ed, the 7 P's are vital;

    Prior Planning and Preparation Prevent Piss Poor Performance.

    I think at least half my time making something is spent researching it and planning out what materials and processes to use.

    Once the planning is sorted, the task of building is/ should be pretty straight forward. Although nothing ever goes to plan and the key to being a decent builder of this stuff is adaptability and being able tosolve problems. Like my late father used to tell me;

    Ed what was the price at the time…??? Just wondering how god of investment money wise it was…

    I think we all dream of the case, but no one would attempt to replicate – to many moving parts etc… But dammm I can dream about it…

    Don't know if i'm right, but i recall that someone said
    price was around $1400, please correct Ed if i'm totally wrong. ?:)

    I have found a vintage attaché case in my cellar (I have used to store my tools in it) :s that I could use as a base for the FRWL attaché case. It already has the right amount of patina, just need to refurbish the leather a bit and dye the internals in red. Actually, I got the idea to replicate the case while reading your posts here :)

    Things I would like to implement:

    1. throwing knife (got the knife, need to figure out the mechanism)
    2. leather strips with gold souvereigns (should be straightforward)
    3. hidden cylinder compartments with bullets (not sure if I want this)
    4. opening/locking mechanism which would activate the stun gas cartridge (will not work anyway, so why bother with the mechanism, other than that you can turn the openers and add a magnetic talcum can)
    5. the AR-7 (don't have any clue where to get one, as I don't have a permit to get a real one and there are no replicas that I know of...)

    For me, the trickiest part is the mechanism for the knife (at the moment)
    I have seen a drawing in the DK book, not sure if this is the route I want to go. My idea is that the knife will eject, if you press at the end of the handle - just like the glass doors in a TV- or HiFi-rack

    I don't need a 100% screen accurate replica, just want the stuff to work as originally intended. Hence the throwing knife I got, does not look the same like the screen version - it's a Herbertz, Solingen - but it is well balanced, which I am learning to throw now.

    So any advice/ideas on the knife mechanism is highly appreciated.

    Sounds good, that idea of yours Jimmy.

    If i'd be making one, i would make spring loaded
    hard plastic inner sheath with lock mechanism and just as you suggested the
    knife would eject out when pressed from the top of the handle.

    If i recall right, in the movie fighting against Grant, Bond
    presses somewhere near the locking mechanism to eject the thrower.
    (Now, that kind of close quarters combat scene i'd like to see on the next Bond movie) :007)

    Just a word of caution, don't take the DK book as gospel, alot of the cutaway views are a little ad-lib.

    That's about how I felt waiting for the damn thing. If memory serves it took well over a year to get the attache case when they were available. You could order it with one or two knives. The two knife version was supposedly the deluxe version and is the one I ordered at a premium over the one knife version. Of course you only see one knife in FRWL but... Don't know if any one knife versions were actually made. Ed might know the answer to that.

    Yes that's what I meant. However you certainly qualify as the "King" of Bond props. All hail the King! Now can I be in your will? Just for the Bond props though. The money, properties and cars can go to your blood relatives. How's that sound? I can be your adopted son. O.K. Dad?
