If sean connery had wanted to do an 8th bond movie back in the late 80s after roger moore finished, would eon have taken him back?

I don't think they would. Given that they didn't part on friendly terms and I'm sure they would of wanted a younger Bond J Brolin was mentioned as a possibility and of course Cubby had his eye on P Brosnan. On one of the special dvd's they show some of their screen tests including S Neil.

No. He looked far too old for NSNA and I don't think Eon would awknowledge there was a seventh.

I thought Connery looked better in NSNA than he did in DAF. IMO Connery's physical appearence in the films went beyond the natural aging process. As he lost interest in the role he seemed to lose motivation to prepare himself for the role physically. He looked significantly younger and much more fit in Thunderball than in YOLT. By 1971 when he was still only 41 in DAF he just looked like an older guy with a paunch, a hairpiece, and eyebrows badley in need of cropping. What I think is telling is that almost six years later in "A Bridge Too Far" he was trim and fit and looked like he could have easilly climbed right back into tux and shoulder holster and been a very believable albeit more mature Bond.

And a year earlier, in 1970, he looked fine in The Molly MaGuires. You pretty much hit the nail on head; He didn't take the role seriously anymore. I would have love seen him in OHMSS and as serious as he was in Doctor No, that would been a far higher point of the series.

Not wanting to contradict myself, but I agree he looked a damn sight better in NSNA than in DAF. I still don't think he should have done more though. He was the best Bond we've had, but I think only for the first four films. That's when I think his tenure should have ended.

Connery himself admitted he was far too old to play James Bond and also said as much regarding Roger Moore. I honestly think he did NSNA just to spite Albert R. Broccoli.

I think RM would of quit with Octopussy if SC haddn't of done NSNA,But he wanted to equal Connerys outings.

There was 'talk' of Connery climbing back into the Aston Martin in the early 1990s when Bond was up in the air and Connery's box office sky high. But when I say 'talk' I mean one tabloid story.

I think Connery looked pretty awful in NSNA, but sadly it wasn't necessary; but he lost too much weight and that aged him, he had this awful permatan, awful hairpiece and he had started to have that distinctive lisp. In publicity shots for Woman's Own later on he looked quite young and fit again, without a rug, it just seemed he'd aged for the film - not helpful. I mean, even in that Highlander movie two years later he seemed to have more joie de vivre.

Connery has so much charisma and screen presence that he could appear as Bond in a dress and riding a unicorn and still be convincing. Seriously though, when NSNA was released I was so happy that Connery was playing Bond again that I was blind to the film's many shortcomings and Connery's advanced age. In hindsight the film does have a few very cool scenes, a great female villain, and Connery tries real hard to make it work but it really should never have been made.

Moore would have quit after Moonraker and even when he decided to conitue afterwards, he was still reluctant during the 1980's.

Moore actually admitted in his book that he really wanted to do his fifth film and sixth film. But because his contract was one film at a time by then, his agent was always trying to get him the highest fee for both of them. That was why EON told the press Moore was reluctant to continue in the part and they were looking around for another actor in the hope he would fret and agree to do the films at whatever price. However, due to Connery being in NSNA, they agreed to give the already tried and trusted Moore "Octopussy" on the understanding it would be his last. Hope this helps.
