Forgive me for comming late to the party, but today is my son's birthday. Two of my favorite people were born just days (and several years) apart. Happy Birthday once again Ed.
Anyway, I continued corresponding with danjaq_Off via email because some of what we were discussing was somewhat sensitive. Suffice it to say, danjaq_Off does know what he's talking about.
In corresponding with him I noticed two things that I never noticed before from the "print" that I dug out. Which is why such discussions are so valuable. First, there is a detail that appears on the regulator that also appears on the Pinder set prop that does not appear on the SD prop. Second, the color specified for the mouthpiece is neither grey nor blue. danjaq_Off has suggested that the color used on screen may in fact have been a color that appears blue on screen, but may have in fact been another color. Because of the color he sugested, I think it is plausible.
There was also something else he was trying to convey that due to my being "thick" or due to the late hour for him was not being understood by me. It was probably me, because sometimes I need to have things explained to me like I'm a two year old. Go ask my wife.
What I'm left with thus far is that the cylinders, and bent regulator plate on the Pinder set prop don't match the print. So to me it means that the prop builder deviated from strict interpretation of the print. This coupled with the sketch of the folding re-breather in Esquire suggests to me there may have been more than one design.
Now wouldn't it be cool to make a folding Esquire Bond re-breather!

Without wishing to be a killjoy and I'm not saying you're thick at all, but if you made props you would know how much research goes into these things. The results of this research is almost as valuble as the resulting props themselves. For example I found this week, after several years of searching the original photograph of the DAF World's Greatest Marches cassette. This means that I can now produce the definitive prop and not an inferior screen grabbed version (No offence to the producer of said SG Prop, you know who you are and that I respect your work immensely {[] ) So I'm not just going to put this photo out there for all and sundry after all the work I've put into it. I'm sure many others feel the same way. We will all privately, gladly, help each other with advice and guidance but a lot of it is not public forum consumption that anyone can read. This is especially true for works in progress. No offence meant and not trying to be elitist but that is the way it is. Others may disagree. :v

AM…you speak for us all…..but sometimes it is fun to tease danjaq _;)
I would never tease Danjaq_Off, then again I wouldn't share the steam of my pi55 with him either

yes i do appreciate the effort and research you guys put in and i have found also the hours that get sucked up in research study to achieve the correct prop, so i'm not taking the pi55 when i ask these questions...
but it also appears to be a closed club.. to some degree.
no false intentions just another good bond fan trying to pay homage to a great series..

...results of this research is almost as valuble as the resulting props themselves.
GM,
I find that the research is actually, in my opinion, the most fun part of the prop.
I suppose it's that feeling of the hunt and, when we're lucky, the reward of finally locating the elusive object that we wish to add to our collections.
As to the DAF Cassette....TOP MARKS on that. I too, searched for years with it always eluding me and eventually settled on a screen grab. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who obsesses on the "thrill of the hunt" Again, well done!!!

I had forgotten we were only a day apart.

Thank you Ed, I'll pass that along to Ricky. One of the presents he got was a Corgi BMW Z-3 with Bond and Natalya and firing missiles. Just lost one missile. Reminds me of losing the little guy in the ejector seat of my Corgi DB-5 way back when. Some things never change.
As far as the "print" goes, I'm afraid I won't be sharing that. However I can share a scan of the sketch of the folding re-breather from the June 1965 Esquire. There are a lot of things in that issue that I would like to make including alternate SPECTRE rings. Enjoy.

Well said GM.
There's many props/items and information which i personally would not have found or got without the help of other collectors/prop makers/Bond enthusiast.
I chatted with a good friend of mine the other day about sharing the information regarding Bond props, parts to make one or purchase vintage items. (He knows who he is, glad you're around mate -{ )
IMO most of us collectors or prop makers (or both) have good intentions. One "problem" on a public forums is that the information is visible to everyone (which in most cases is very very good thing), but there's always people who want have everything instantly - in other words never go for the hard way (without making any research) and some people don't care about the thing that GM pointed out - research really takes time.
Personally i find the "thrill of the hunting" very fascinating (which ED pointed out), especially when talking about vintage items.
Don't get me wrong i'm not judging anyone or any method, because disapproval is a luxury i can't afford. :007)

well said guys, I'd like to add my two cents if I may.
Personally, I don't share specific information like plans and drawings with anyone, mainly due to me being screwed over a long time back.
Sadly, I know of people who will take hard to find info, thats taken time by some unlucky fan to find, and pass it off as their own. There's others that will use people's info and ideas to make a profit, with no tip of the hat to anyone who's helped them. There's others that will promise to assist in future in return for info, then disappear when a request for help goes out.
Although rare, this does happen.
Now I'm not saying everyone on here is like that, actually quite the opposite, but it does happen, and from the perspective of the hard working researcher, its simply not fair.
I actually enjoy trying to find the right info and having a very small circle of mates who help me out in return for a present or two now n then. Its more enjoyable when everyone can get on and gain something other than simply currency.
I hope everyone understands what I'm saying here, and if anyone needs help/ advice then I'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
It takes time, dedication and commitment to make accurate replica props, and my research is largely my own work. Yes I do have help now n then, but come one guys, I'm nothing special, I'm no god of making replica bond props, I simply enjoy bond and love making the props for my own collection.
