Mount Gay Rum and Soda

I recently found a bottle of Mount Gay Rum at a local liquor store so naturally I sprung for it, wanting to taste Bond's "Mount Gay Rum and Soda" from Casino Royale. I don't recall seeing a mixed drink prepared for Bond on the screen so I was wondering, to get the perfect Bond rum and coke, how many parts rum to how many parts soda should be mixed?

Thanks! Just what I was looking for. I'll give it a shot.
Pun intended?
General rule of thumb should be one part rum, three parts mixer (1/4 to 3/4) so coke/lemonade or soda water go very well.

Yeah, I drink mine with a local variety cola sweetened with cane sugar. Do you have the url for the video?
I can't remember the exact video. So, here are the links.

That's what I thought as well. The drink didn't look dark enough to be a Rum-&-Coke sort of cocktail. Plus, I don't really see Bond as the type to order a Coke-based drink.

But I will agree, the drink was to light in color to be Cola.
... I also ruled out Coke, because Bond normally doesn't do anything sweeter than a mint julep, right?

Anyway, I agree with the opinions that Bond is asking for Club Soda, and not Cola. 'Booze with Soda' always implies Club Soda (think, Scotch and Soda). Also, if you look at the drink, it's much too transparent to be cola (though Bond's black shirt makes it tough to tell). Cola is fairly opaque. And Mount Gay rum is a pretty dark rum, so a double with soda would definitely create that color. So my feeling is that the drink he asks for is a double (or triple) Mount Gay with Club Soda.

...okay, well it wasn't that difficult to find out.
Just play your Casino Royale, with the subtitles on )
He says, and I quote
"Good evening. Large Mount Gay with Soda" (Which would correlate with your double or triple measure.)
Obviously, as he is in the Bahamas, he doesn't need to clairfy the rum part....everyone there knows what Mount Gay is
And us Brits generally only know it as 'soda' - it's not commonly known as 'club soda' over here.
However I have found the following:
Wiki = Carbonated water (also known as club soda, soda water, sparkling water, seltzer, or fizzy water) is water into which carbon dioxide gas under pressure has been dissolved, a process that causes the water to become effervescent.
About cocktails = Carbonated water is the defining ingredient of carbonated soft drinks. The process of dissolving carbon dioxide in water is called carbonation.
Club Soda: Club soda and soda water are almost identical, and sometimes club soda is just another name for soda. The two are interchanged in drinks all the time. Club soda is often contains additives such as table salt, and occasionally light flavorings.
Drinks like John Collins, Tom Collins and Vodka Collins have recipes using both soda water or club soda, the decision between the two waters is usually a matter of taste and availability. Other popular soda drinks are Smith & Kearns, Singapore Sling, Wine Spritzer and Mojito.
So there you go! Hope that helps
Except I don't have any limes, so that's poor form, but here goes. I'll report back in a bit.
Mount Gay and Soda (water)
Limes?
Coke?
I don't get where people are thinking that these are used? Please see my reply above to what Bond actually says.
Soda = soda water.
Not soda, as in a generic term for soft carbonated mixer.....??? (Like coke.)
I'm certain Bond orders soda water and not Coke.
If he wanted Coke, he would have said so.
However, the Coke is winning out for me on this one.
Must have a sweet tooth:
Like I said.....
What Bond says (after putting the scene on subtitles) is:
"Good evening.... Large Mount Gay and soda"
.......
Perhaps I have a faulty keyboard ?:) 8-)
Why didn't I think of that?? 8-) Thanks Lexi!
Because you're a ma...... because men usually think of the more complicated way to do something... whilst us women try and go the easiest route )
Glad I could have been of help -{

Hang on.... in one post you are saying my logic was why us women are smarter....
.......and then the next moment, you're saying I'm sexist, misogynist (again !!!)
Make you're mind up....
(that's what us women have problems with isn't it? you see, I'm sexist in both directions Doesn't that then cancel them out..... )
mmm, never tried the Goslings, I'll have to find some. For dark rum I usually go for Meyer's.
They Mount Gay and soda water was fine. Very light and refreshing, and allows one to taste the rum.
The Coke was very sweet after the soda water, but still good.
Yeah, it's a little dicey ordering it, usually goes like:
"Mount Gay and Coke please."
"You..er..you're what now?"
