I know the mail is a rag, but I'd never heard this - did anyone else?
I'd always thought you could see that he had less hair (we all do as we get older!) in the last two films, but I didn't know that he wore something...

I was just surprised at this article because Pierce's hair was always one of his strongest assets! However, according to my Mother (and I'm sure countless women everywhere) he's still about as good as it gets!

In film and theatre wigs work. (Within reason. I am thinking period costume here!) In the real world? face up and get out the clippers!
As Connery himself said in an interview I recently saw:
"Cut it short!"
I felt Brosnan was receding way back, even in one of his eco commercials around the time of TWINE there's one shot where he really was receding. I figured he'd had a hair transplant, maybe he since forgot to fill in the gaps or he had a weave.

Then Brosnan did better than Connery in that respect. In DAF and NSNA it was painfully obvious the man was wearing a toupee.
That depends on how "clipped short" we are talking. I agree a military style buzz cut would not suit everyone, but nothing looks worse that the thin three-thread comb over, except for a "bobble head effect" brillo pad wig!

In "Dr. No" he wore his own hair, likewise in "From Russia with Love" - except that his scalp was painted to hide the thin areas. In "Goldfinger" he wore a toupee, except for the scene at the beginning when he tosses the dead bird off his head. For "Thunderball" Connery was toupee'ed in most of the film except the underwater scenes and some scenes where he just emerged from the sea. In "Diamonds are Forever", the toupee disappears when Big Tam goes "swimming" with Bambi and Thumper. Finally at the end of "Never Say Never Again" when chasing after Largo there is a quick shot of a very bald 007 swimming fast in scuba gear.

The toupee is an interesting study - and it is important because a lousy one can stand out and distract from the film.
As for Brosnan, Pierce lovers can rest - no toupee. Roger wore one to cover the back of his head towards the end of his run as Bond. As noted above George L., Timothy D., and Daniel C. needed no assistance in the "rug" department.

To me, Connery's hair looked natural in Never Say Never Again. The style was pretty basic, but given that I'd seen him bald quite a bit, he looked reasonably convincing and also age appropriate and certainly moreso than in some of his other films. That shot of Brosnan in the sunlight might not be revealing that he is losing his hair so much as he has fine hair follicles -- one can have a full head of hair, with even greater density than people with thicker hair, and still appear to have less hair because one can see the scalp easier. That's especially a problem for people with very straight hair. People with curly hair can disguise problem parts a lot easier and also usually have thicker hair strands.
I also knew about Connery, I read he was balding by his late teens, which would be really hard to deal with
Lazenby had nothing done to his hair.
Rog only used some cream thing by the end I'm pretty sure, but he has dyed his hair before, obviously.
Dalton had to use comb overs and I read somewhere, other than that article, that the directors were careful not to use certain angles and lighting, otherwise BAM! his bald spot appears!
Pierce wore a partial one.
And I have no idea about Danny.
As for Craig, it's the era of the hair transplant and good luck to him. Still don't know why he looks more Bondian in Dragon than in Skyfall but... shrugs shoulders.

Oh god, it was soo bad. It seemed that his hairline completely changed from the previous 3 films
When I last rewatched it, I was so distracted by it. It was just nasty looking in a way. Like obvious hair from someone else's head or weird synthetic.
Did anyone else read this line with Connery's voice in their head?
