No, child. I'm saying it will continue, regardless of this little half-assed pissing contest you seem intent upon having. Spectreville was also there because it was ironic and anachronistic...like the rootop---oh, God's sake. Never mind.
Perhaps you missed the bit where I said I preferred a more faithful adaptation...as I always have where Bond is adapted to film... 8-) This is just a bit of casual fan chat---daydreaming, what ifs---and you're treating it as if somebody's killing babies. No one has more respect for Fleming's work than I do.
You're a delight to chat with. Honestly. But I think we've now reached the end of the tether, and to watch you strain is becoming tiring.
No need to caution me, Powers That Be. I'm done with this one.

My simple friend, your enthusiasm for said banal idea is advocating the continued bastardization of Fleming's work. I am sure you must have enjoyed Bond playing Texas Hold-em Poker in Montenegro instead of Baccarat in France.
It's obvious you can't handle criticism and you are the one who is being having like a child and a petulant one at that.

Now relax.
Well Yolt didn't really take much from the novel. I consider it really a seperate entity which was silly and yet visually spectacular.

Actually, Dr. Einstein, I was the most vocal critic of the move from Baccarat to Texas Hold 'Em on this site. At that point I was probably more like you---fully prepared to debate every aspect of Cinematic Bond to the point of nausea--but since then I've gained a perspective that clearly still eludes you. As for not handling criticism...it's an amusing notion. Write a few screenplays and get professional coverage. Write a book, publish it, make yourself available for real criticism by professionals with surgical scalpels, and then get back to me on that...
Yes, I'm quite simple; ask anyone 8-) ---but clearly I'm no friend, so let's not pretend otherwise. In truth your masterful grasp of all things Fleming has me positively cowering---like a caveman who's just seen fire for the first time---if that's what you need to hear [yawn].
The fact of the matter is that I had a death in the family the day you decided to fixate on my simple idea for a variation on the YOLT finale, and my emotion spilled into the discussion. Don't get me wrong---I owe you no apology, so you'll not get one. But I do apologize to other members who have come to expect more from me than a mudfight with the latest [insert pejorative here] who's dropped in and planted his own flag, self-satisfied in his negativity about pretty much everything he discusses...and ready to fight recreationally like a drunk on a Saturday night. This is what I get, I suppose, for posting on one of your threads
So now that we've defined each other to one another's satisfaction, we can part ways as non-friends and call it a day. At least I will.

Wow, your sarcasm really sucks.
Are you relieved now you finally got this one last shot in ? Has your ego been satisfied ? Will you shut the hell up now ? Please tell me yes.

I dunno...has there been a good Bond film that spent any time in the US since GF (maybe DAF, though I find the Vegas scenes with the "Syndicate" kind of campy)?
There are so many other beautiful, photogenic cities out there for Bond to visit: Kuala Lumpur, Rio, Shanghai, the old city in Tripoli, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok (ok, so I'm partial to the last one, but still...)
If he goes anyplace in the US, though, it's gotta be New York. Hell, I spent a decade there mentally scouting locations.
No.
Never again.
Let's keep James Bond in Great Britain, Europe and South America from now on.
Let's also emphasize his English-ness from now on, and the more noble aspects of his English-ness.
As an American, part of the appeal of James Bond and of the franchise is its foreign-ness.
Richard
Completely agree. I also cant stand American Bond girls. Bond girls should be exotic and foreign (well foreign to me ) ). I'm also American, so no hate on the US of course. I wouldn't mind a few US locales, but not for the entire movie, or even the majority of it.
I hope Bond returns to America, But I'd like to see him In the mid-west away from the citys,He could have a car chase with Bond in a battered Ford pick-up against some modern four wheel drive trucks etc.
nice idea...I like the idea of Bond in New York as well, but wonder if it is an overused location and threfore lacking in mystery/exoticism for Bond. Sydney might be better, or hell why not both?
I don't really care where the next Bond film takes place....he did make a quick trip to Miami in CR (well whatever they used to stand in for Miami) to kill off a henchman and blow up some stuff. If they do go back to the US...please no stereotypical comic relief mafioso or rappers. Upon further reflection I'd actually prefer some exotic local other than the US. I'm an American, so if I want to see violence or gunfights I can just walk around my neighborhood at night lol.

Agree with you 100%, Howard. I think a lot of this reaction of "No, no, no, keep him out of America" comes from Americans themselves. Sheesh: there are plenty of locales in this country that are exotic, beautiful, and exciting--a good director and an interesting script can bring them to life. So long as Bond has a reason to be in the U.S. and he can bring a new perspective to my homeland, I wouldn't complain.
Have to agree with Hardyboy. I think because of the bad precident set in LLD (baffoonish redneck sheriff, stereotypic blaxploitation film villains, etc) we worry that Bond back in the USA will bring us alot of lame "fish out of water" jokes.
The truth is Bond as portrayed by DC should blend right in in the States. We're talking about an educated, MI6 agent who has been around the world and then some. It's not like he's gonna walk around NYC in a deerstalker cap and a magnifying glass getting into scrapes with street thugs and walking off saying "Pip pip cheerio and all that". Despite thesecretagents experience in the US.....America is still the great melting pot and truth be told in most metropolitin areas there are a good number of Brits living among us and despite our boorish colonial ways and their snooty, uptight ways we bloody seem to get on quite well. Maybe a good plotline would be Bond requested by the CIA to come to the US and help them with their own Quantum problem as Bond is one of the few left not corrupted by Quantum.
Bond in the US has been done too many times already. Still, locations aren't as important as story content. You could put Bond in an Indianapolis Toys R US if the story justified it. But after Fort Knox and Miami and New York and Las Vegas and New Orleans and the Florida Keys and San Francisco I am ready for something more exotic. Although Bond spent some time in Madagascar in CR I would like to see more in that part of the world, particularly on the African continent. South Africa, the Sudan, perhaps Morocco. I'd like to see Bond track a Quantum operative, perhaps Mr. White, to Morocco and then Spain, from Spain to Algeria and perhaps Libya. Make it a chase. Put Bond on a clock.
He has to stop Mr. White before he reaches.....
Whatever. I am an American and I love my country but I'm getting tired of seeing Bond back in the States again and again. It' s about time he applied for dual citizenship. Send Bond to Africa. Perhaps there he can meet up with Shatterhand.

I know it's all the rage these days, but the Middle East might make for some good locations. Or possibly somewhere in Oceania...
