Keep it simple guys. No best film for each era, actor or any other clever stuff. Simply the best Bond film. Maybe we will see a clear winner...

I have to agree with Teppo, OHMSS. It's very close to the novel (also my #1 Novel) It has a fantastic pace,Bond seems more human less the super agent.Having Bond on top of a mountain alone against Bolfeld and his team it's a great location. On first viewing as a kid I hated it (grew up watching the Roger Moore Bonds, which i still like ) But as I matured I grew to appricaiate the jewel for what it was. If my house was burning down and I could save only one Bond it would be this

I know he hated the film. I can't blame him since it dosen't represent his book very well but still, I think it's the best because it pays homage to Fleming better than any other film. Bond's character was strongest in that film.

Sorry - as much as I love OHMSS, there is NO WAY Lazenby's acting was on the level of Connery's, Dalton's, Brosnan's or Craig's. Mind you, I don't think Lazenby was that bad, but since you listed "best acting" as one of your criteria I felt I had to point that out. I do agree, however, that some of the other actors (most notably Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas and Gabriele Ferzetti) were far superior to some the actors appearing in other Bond films. On that basis I would say that you are on solid ground if you consider OHMSS one of the best acted Bond movie. But it is difficult for me to say it contains the "best acting" if the lead actor wasn't up to par.

I'll back you up here. I love OHMSS, but Goldfinger is a masterpiece, and, like The Wizard of Oz, I could watch it a thousand times, never get bored, and always find something new.

I'm with the Goldfinger crowd. Best blend of all of my favorite elements of Bond - Connery at his best, good villain and henchman, terrific Bond girl, nice gadgets, and a not-too-farfetched plot.

I really would like to declare Goldfinger No. 1 if didn't take a left turn after Bond is sent to Auric Stud. Bond becomes way to relaxed the dosen't seem as strong as before.

Well, I'd respectfully have to disagree. As I've stated in another thread, I believe that Lazenby's interpretation of the character is the best of the series, capturing all Bond's facets — only Timothy Dalton came close. Connery was too confident and self-satisfied, Moore was frequently too glib, Craig is too thuggish, and Brosnan simply never got a really first-rate script so it's hard to know what he was capable of doing.

I found Lazenby's acting to be okay and OHMSS was just the wrong film for him. I would have liked to have seen George in a Goldfinger or Thunderball. A film that was less concerned about Bond as a character.

I just can't imagine any of other Bond actors to replace Lazenbys performance in OHMSS.

For your eyes only. it has to be it. perfect plot, not too old, and the action is good. perfect Bond. Lot of people think get it mixed up with the silly man with the golden gun stuff. A good mix of humor, action and good plot with a good ending. Defiantly the best Bond.

I wasn't necessarily commenting on which actor best captured all of Bond's facets (and I am assuming you are determining Bond's facets from the way the character was written by Ian Fleming. I was speaking only in terms of acting skill, and I feel that in several scenes Lazenby's lack of experience as an actor really showed. This is particularly evident in the scenes where Bond is impersonating Sir Hillary Bray. I realize that this could be partly a result of the fact that much of Lazenby's dialogue being dubbed, but that is not the only reason. In several scenes it appeared that Lazenby was just posing like a model and reciting lines, not really portraying a character. Obviously, all of the other Bond actors had been acting quite a bit longer than Lazenby, and it shows in the performances. That was the point I was trying to make.

Best lead actor, best theme tune/score, best car, cleverest chase, nothing is overdone but is well balanced to fit an engaging story. Put simply, it is exactly what a Bond adventure should be.

From Russia With Love/OHMSS are Bond at its best. But I think The Spy Who Loved Me is the quintessential Bond movie. It has everything a Bond movie needs and then some.

My favorite Bond film is still FRWL followed closely by OHMSS, but if you ever need to sumarize the entire 22 Bond films into one movie TSWLM is a good start (Goldfinger is a good second IMHO)

It's hard to choose between Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but if you put that damned Beretta to my head, I would have to choose Dr. No. It's a brilliantly realized and fully accomplished Bond. They nailed it, the first time out.

The one question no Bond fan really wants to answer. For me it's The Spy Who Loved Me. The ski-jump opening sequence with Union Jack parachute, Carly Simon's theme, Jaws and of course - the Lotus Esprit, Roger Moore had perfected his interpretation of Bond and emerged from the shadow of Connery with a fresh Bond for the next generation.

    For Your Eyes Only.

This film had it all for me. Bond back to basics in a terrific cold war spy thriller with excellent locations, stunts, music, action scenes, actors, acting, Bond girls and a nice realistic turn for the series. I also loved Roger Moore's different approach on this entry. He was fantastic. The first Bond of the 80's, John Glen's debut for directing, Moore's fifth outing, and just an amazing Bond film to appreciate gratefully.
