    Alphamel,

Yes, very nice. You seem to have amassed them in a very short period of time too. I began collecting my one sheets in the mid to late 70's with many of my original Connery's bought in the early 90's. As for the first four re-prints in your collection, they still are cool, and I suspect I will add the re-strikes to my collection too. You can't beat the prices for them. I suspect you will eventually add the originals to your collection. Still, nice collection. I truly like what looks like a Japanese NSNA. Great alternate artwork! Although I am primarily a U.S. one sheet collector, I have some foreign pieces in my collection too. One I bought in Belgium when I was working as a ships Officer during a REFORGER (REturn FORces to GERmany) mission. The TMWTGG villains artwork is an excellent piece too. When I first saw one in a vintage collectibles shop in the late 80's early 90's, I had never seen one before. I could have bought it for about twenty bucks. Since I was more familiar with the standard art and the Golden Gun teaser, I passed. What a mistake that was, the one that got away! That was before the various Bond poster books became available. Anyway, thanks for sharing.

That's frankly astonishing. I too like the Japanese NSNA with the bikini, the Goldfinger one with a DAF Connery pointing the gun is eye-catching too.

Do you ever feel like bunging The Sound of Music poster up there? :D

Thanks for the compliments guys. I consider my apartment an art gallery. Just me, some beer in the fridge, my computer & tv and 75 posters.

Donald, you messed up not buying that "villains" poster. I shelled out $500 for it. Tonight, I shelled out $230 at Heritage auctions for this MWTGG advance:

Will add pics next week. (BTW not bragging about money I've spent - just reporting the going rates)

Seriously, I only want one more James Bond poster - OHMSS one sheet (ski shot) - and I will consider my collection essentially complete. If anybody is willing to part with a good quality OHMSS cheap, let me know. Eventually I'll snag a mint 1980 re-release for that poster for $50-$75, so I'm not looking to spend big bucks on it.

I'm not planning on replacing any of my re-releases with originals. The re-releases look BETTER than the originals when framed and are 15% of the cost of the original, so I'd rather spend my money on posters for which re-releases are not available.

Of course, I'd like to get some of the British quads for the first four movies but they're just too expensive. I'm satisfied with the Goldfinger quad re-release - that is a rare "Park Circus" full size quad from 2007.

That's cool, and you have a very enviable collection. When collecting, one should collect what they like without regard to what other people have or think. Moreover collecting should never be on the basis of perceived value. It's quite simple really, if you like it get it.

Now that you've been hooked by Bond, how about some props, books, guns or watches?

I don't know about the re-releases looking better than the originals. I saw a damaged original Goldfinger once and compared it to a re-release (reprint) and the original was easily more colorful and vibrant. I don't know a lot about poster reprints but I do know that there are too many companies selling reprints at original and other various sizes.

Also, how are you mounting your original posters? Are you just using the weight of the glass against the poster? Thanks.

They're OK but I'm a movie poster ho. I have 1000 posters and the Bonds are just 5%. It's my "art collection." I'm not a Bond fanatic - I'm a Bond art fanatic, Star Wars art fanatic, etc. I haven't seen 30-40% of the movies for which I have posters.

I have not directly compared the re-releases vs. the originals. You probably know that the studio officially "reprinted" many of the Connery posters in 1980 to draw attention away from Connery's unofficial NSNA movie. However, the art quality should be similar since they were printed with the same original printing plates (except the Dr. No). Keep in mind that the re-release posters are now 30 years old - almost as old as the originals!

Check out this article at movieposterauthenticating.com about the 1980 reprints vs. originals.

You may be referring to modern digital reprints - made from JPEG images from scans of originals. Those are usually noticeably inferior to originals. I do not buy digital reprints - they are a total waste of money. Avoid Moviegoods.com like the plague.

I don't mount the posters in any special way - just stick them in the frames.

The 1980's Goldfinger reprint is also different. The credits have been re-arranged.

    DG

Edit: Also, the original Dr. No one sheet is not so white and the paper is different, it's matte not glossy. I don't think a style B FRWL one sheet was made in 1980 either.

Thanks for the link. I didn't know about the 1980 studio reprints. I don't know if the Thunderball reprint I own is a 1980 version. It's rolled without fold lines. I'm pretty sure I picked up the poster before modern scanning stuff. I think it actually says reprint on it near the bottom edge. This whole reprint thing is the reason I put off collecting posters for a while. I found far too many dealers who I just didn't believe. Their whole claim to a poster's originality was basically saying "you can trust me, it's original" or "the guy I got it from said it's original." I couldn't deal with that. I did see sites like moviegoods and allposters with wild changing prices. They were also selling reprints and originals which didn't seem like a good idea to me considering it's tough to determine original modern posters without direct comparison. The Star Wars and Spider-Man posters are a good example. This was around the time I put off collecting.

I'm going to set aside some time to check out your site. Amazing collection. I added Clan of the Cave Bear to my movies to see list just because of the poster!

PS - I'm going to send you a PM.

If your Bond 1 Sheet has the date of it initial release in the bottom right hand corner, it will be the 1980's (I think 1984) re-release. Also the glossy paper and the fact it has been reverse folded will be a giveaway.

These are different from reprints as the 1984 re-releases are still official posters in the same way the Park Circus quads are official. They are just of a different worth and value.

Personally, I have the first four films 1 sheets and linen backed as these are (comparatively) more affordable than the quads, but don't have or wish for the re-releases. I wouldn't buy any reprints and probably won't afford the quads in my lifetime.

I'll check it out. I have the poster stored now. I need to be clear on the whole reprint and re-release thing. I'm really against reprints or fakes. I only picked up the Thunderball one because it's my favorite Bond poster and people were throwing out wild prices for original Bond posters without even talking about condition. Far too many dealers in it for the money basically and not the artwork.

What makes you think my horizons were not expanded long ago? The creme de la creme of movie poster collecting are the stone lithographs of old featuring stars from movies of note like It Happened One Night with Clark Gable, The Mummy with Boris Karloff and Beau Geste with Gary Cooper. My earliest movie poster is Action In The North Atlantic with Humphrey Bogart. It's typical sepia toned with black and red fare from Warner Brothers of the period. However, it came right after Casablanca and is about the U.S. Merchant Marine in World War II. The poster is important to me because I sailed as an Officer in the Merchant Marine during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm receiving the Merchant Marine Expeditionary Medal for my service.

Apart from that I also have most of the one sheets from the first three Indiana Jones movies as well as some of the Jack Ryan Movies and Mission Impossible. Furthermore I collect Merchant Marine recruiting posters from World War II. I also collect the odd magic poster. One of my favorites is the Doug Henning poster featuring the Houdini water torture escape from his T.V. special back in the 70's.

    Just "sayin".

You may be interested in the original negative transparency for Diamonds Are Forever on sale on Ebay. Actually the transparency is slightly different from the poster, so it appears to be a negative for an unused version:

This is an original negative used to create the movie poster for Diamonds are Forever starring Sean Connery. My uncle was one of men who worked on the film and was given this negative as a gift. It's about the size of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. The negative has been in an album for the past 35 years but it can be removed from its album page. Contact me if you have any other questions.
