Donald Pleasance for me, disregarding the weird scar on his face he seemed to suit my favor. I seem to prefer other villains rather then him such as Rosa Klebb, Max Zorin etc. Though i understand why you like Blofeld and I might start up a favourite felix leiter.

Savalas was an effective villian but he was not that interesting. Donald Pleasance was more interesting but he wasn't a good villian. Personally, I am going for the first incarnation with Anthony Dawson's hands stroking that beautiful, Persian Cat. Despite those breif appearances, the character shined as an all knowing and ever doubtful mastermind of SPECTRE.
I'd go either for Dawson in FRWL or Donald Plesence as both had brilliantly menacing voices. DP may not have been the most imposing person physically but he could put on a pretty scary voice when he wanted. Any1 who has seen an old add with his voice-over warning children not to go near water (made in the 70s) will know what I mean.
If I was pushed I'd probably say DP as he is often the figure that comes to mind when I think of Blofeld.
telly savalas was the best, pleasence was a close second, but savalas blofeld was scary in a weird way, brain-washing people, was scary and very intimidating. they dont make villians like these anymore! the worst blofeld was the one in for your eyes only. blofeld was so unneccessary there. the worst part of the film without a doubt
Unseen Blofeld was always more interesting than the ones shown onscreen. I would have liked to have seen Jan Weirich in the role just because it would have been so perverse, and had he not been misused as Count Lippe, Guy Doleman would have worked, as would Peter Wyngarde or Lawrence Harvey.
it is hard to determine who is the best between the top2 in my opinion, pleasence and savalas. pleasence as mentioned previously was ruthless, 'we do not tolerate failure'. savalas was more if you can say it 'friendly' and co-operated more with his workers. however, it is fair to say that both are equally brilliant as blofeld and scary and intimidating which is what blofeld is all about
A tie between Donald Pleasance and Tally Savalas. They both suited their roles in their movies perfect, and the other one could not have done the other film, if you know what I mean.
Unseen Blofield was always better. I didn't like how Blofield evolved from a ruthless behind-the-scenes mastermind in the earlier films to a front-line commander in OHMSS. Blofield putting on the ski outfit and chasing Bond down the mountain epitimizes this. This is not something the earlier incarnations of Blofield would have done. He really seemed like a different character, which may have been the point, but if that was the case then actually make him a different character.

Telly Savalas was my favourite Blofeld he did more stuff like chasing Bond down mountains fighting on bob sleigh runs he was very good in most of his films.
I like the essence of Blofeld. The actors whose faces were not shown and not credited in the films make more of an impact because of the mystery surrounding them.
It is hard to top the fighting fish scene in from Russia with Love. But I like Telly for the ones we actually see.: An interesting side note. In the books Blofeld changes quite a bit from book to book. In Thunderball he is an all business, behind the scenes criminal mastermind ( He was # 2 in thunderball not #1, but the SPECTRE # had nothing to do with rank in the book ) In OHMSS he changes his look and mannerisms so much that Bond questions if he is even the same guy from his MI6 file.( he is more like a sunbathing playboy who has had plastic surgery and is surrounded by beautiful women ) In the books Bond had never met Blofeld until he was in disguise as hillary bray. But No matter who played Blofeld what I would have really liked to see was Bond strangle him with his bare hands like he did in the end of YOLT ( book ). That would have been great!!!!!!!!!
Telly Savalas played the role very well imo. He's even got the menacing voice and his delivery of his lines are very frightening. "A grave deep enough I think to even prevent 007 from walking..."
I agree that Savalas brought a certain gravity and menance to the role that Donald Pleasance lacked. I might be repeating myself, but I would have loved to see Savalas' Blofeld go up against Connery's Bond.

Anthony Dawson in From Russia With Love and Thunderball. The fact that you never see his face adds greatly to the mystery and makes him seem much more sinister. Note, he also played Professor R.J. Dent in Dr. No.
I agree that an unseen Bloefeld was very effective, but Ian Fleming fleshed him out, gave him a voice and physical business to do in the novel On Her Majesty's Secret Service, so the film adaptation had to deal with this development and follow suit.
The characterization imposed on YOLT is a joke, inconsistent with the earlier films or the novels. No fault of Donald Pleasance, who is a wonderful actor. I prefer the cultivated barbarian played by Telly Savalas. He is the only Bloefeld that makes dramatic sense, and the only Bloefeld who is confrontational without being afraid and physically threatening, leading the chase for Bond and starting the avalanche to kill him. He is not inconsistent with the unseen Bloefeld from the earlier films. It's Savalas or nobody.
