    Ok, good advice.

Other buyers, what is your current situation?

I asked Mac to refund, and was offered 50%. I replied telling him "ok, send me 50%, and we can discuss the rest another time."
I received the 50% shortly after. Which I consider a positive thing.

    Actually pete it was perfect.....

Completely sums up how many of us feel right now, and not just about the cufflinks...

Have to say, how do you do it?

It must take a great deal of time and effort to continually come up with such blindingly accurate cutting humour..

    Pictures too.....

I doubt if I sat here 24hours a day every day of the week id be able to do it...

Right, genuinely trying to be positive now... Since the cufflinks have gone into production can we see an image of the prototype / finished item? Perhaps members can then make 'constructive' comments and suggestions?

Quite honestly, for those of us living in the states, you can get them made by a jeweler in silver for about half that price.

And if you're traveling anywhere in Asia, say India or Singapore, you can get them made for about a quarter of the price.

Not that I don't applaud your intentions...

    From someone on that styleforum.

Dah! It's a nice effort from Mac, but why didn't anyone shop around for a lower price?!?!?

Just going by a post from a member above who received a message from Mac stating that the cufflinks had gone into production. I, therefore, just assumed there is now a finished product or at least an agreed prototype. I would be interested to see it - maybe the Mac has sorted the design issues out?

Mac, I've been reading these posts and to be honest, I think you've been given to much of a hard time. I did get 'em out so am entitled to comment where as the heckler's here should stay out of it unless they can help.

The AJB forum, I've always felt is a site where Gentlemen talk about Bond who is also a Gentleman. Gentlemen always deliver, and if they don't they take it on the chin and accept responsibility, not run off and hide. I have every faith in you, Mac that the finished product will be what you anticipated it to be because you, like every other member of AJB are a Gentleman. That's why I paid over my £200.

Guys, give the man a break because if we are not careful, no one else in the future will have the balls to take on a project that might interest us for fear of being ridiculed.

    TomSawyer,

On my end too, the PayPal refund has been granted. I can only assume it has gone straight into your bank account, rather than your PayPal account? Or is it "pending" or being "held" on your end? Try contacting PayPal about it.

Apparently a moderator contacted TomSawyer and told him I have no intentions of completing this project, and as such he should get a refund. This is completely untrue. I am a man of my word, and it is an honourable one at that. I have no intention of ripping people off and I am waiting for confirmation on details. I would ask all people not involved in this or who know what I am doing behind the scenes with regard to collecting information to not make baseless statements.

Thank you, and I appreciate the support from the members involved in this. I will keep you all updated when I have more information.

007dan this is one of the smartest replies on this abortion of a thread...well done

    BUT.....

This was a real eye opener for me and I'm afraid deserves an explanation Mac..

No comment, just thought it might be of interest.

Before I start to hear the pinging of sniper rounds, if you go back and read what I wrote from the very beginning, I have remained open minded about mac's intentions and as ever prefer to deal in facts before I begin slandering someone from the cozy distance of the keyboard.
That's why I have been amongst the most consistently supportive of this project.

However, when the facts change I change my opinion - what do you do sir?...

I feel there are now enough outstanding questions to warrant an explanation from mac.
While I detested ( note - that's different from desist) the execution, I completely supported the ethic of keeping the bulk of this project above board and open.
    I still do.....
In case that was too difficult to understand,

I SUPPORT KEEPING THIS THREAD ABOVE GUTTER LEVEL AND IN THE OPEN

Mac please take this in the spirit intended, but I feel you should explain this link, together with the issues on measurements, copyright, the awful workmanship of the mock up example,  and any other that members OF the PROJECT feel important.

Finally, I explained what I intend to do to protect my investment. That remains my aim unless I am satisfied that progress is being made. I have diarised the 4th April.

While I can see that initially the concept of 50% deposit and 50% completion was indicated, and although most seem to have handed over 100% up front, no where on the thread, nor in private conversation between you and I ( oh my god :o pinging all round...) does it say the deposit is non-refundable.
Sure, you probably had to pass this onto the cuff maker in good faith.

But unless the cuff maker had expended enormous amounts on now worthless material (silver? Tell him I'll take it off him for cost) or he has completed expensive modelling work in preparation, I can't see why he should claim the whole 50%.

No, this point, added to research that implies that these are seriously over priced for the likely final outcome  (based on that terrible mock up) is seriously troubling me, and possibly others.

I'm a patient man and will await your reply.

Finally, picking up the quote earlier, I too am concerned that this may end up being the last member-managed project on ajb.
For those of us who have staked money and reputation supporting previous efforts, often in the face of extreme provocation, this is more than gutting.

Perhaps all could ponder this as they take aim with their laser-guided barbs.

I opened a dispute through Paypal yesterday, asking for a full refund.

I sent a message to mac in the dispute, asking for my money back. He replied:

    "From Seller - Kate Macauley3/30/2011 23:06 GMT+02:00
I have already given you a 50% refund of £98 to buy the Quantum of Solace cufflinks two days ago.

I have sent the other remaining 50% (£98) of the £196 to the cufflink company, and you were aware that there was a 50% deposit at the start—you made no objections. You agreed that you would rather take the £98 that I refunded you two days ago to pay for another pair of cufflinks and forfeit the remaining £98 to the project. As such, it is simply unfair for you to ask for the remaining £98 as you know it has been paid to the cufflink company, and I am then out of pocket. The moderator doesn't know what he's talking about, as he has no idea what I am doing behind the scenes collecting information. These cufflinks will be completed.

Like they say: "Hindsight is 20/20." But you agreed to all the terms once you paid with no objections. It is unfair for me to be out of pocket on this.

I hope you close this case so we can sort it out amicably.

    Thanks,

    Mac."

I agreed only that you sent me 50% now(3 days ago), and that we would discuss the rest later:
    gmail message reads as follows:
Mac from Absolutely James Bond has sent you a message. You can reply to Mac by replying to this e-mail.

    The message reads as follows:

    "Hi,

I understand you asking for a refund, but I've already sent a 50% portion of your money to the cufflink maker to start production. If you want, I can refund the other £98 to you, to put towards the QOS cufflinks?

    Thanks,
    Mac."

    My reply:

    "Hi

Okay, send me the £98 now, I'll need it to order the cufflinks. We can discuss the rest another time!"

This is not true Mac. You wrote this so that if I escalate to a Paypal claim, you would have better chances of not having to pay anything.

Their starting price is £400 for bespoke cufflinks, but I contacted them and said with enough orders if we could get the price down to between £100-£200. I believe this is possible but I'm still waiting for confirmation. If you're willing to take part - providing the price is right - let me know in this thread. I'll try and take a count each day.

There's another thread in which I will try to get measurements and clear pictures, however this thread is primarily for numbers.

The cufflinks will be an exact copy (I hope) and in hallmarked sterling silver.

Just so we are clear, these are the cufflinks that are going to be reproduced:

Minijeff, although I try to maintain neutral in these cases I have to say...that was the BEST application of a YouTube moment in ANY thread ANYwhere on this board...my coffee is now dripping from the screen.

I think you do have a nice light and positive touch when it comes to keeping tongue firmly against cheek and we do need that when moments get a bit dark...and you understand that fine line between humor and goading.
