Well at a guess Ian, nobody has a SA version (either one) The commercially/promotional one from Philips was similar to photo 1 (Hero version), but had no working LCD display and didn't come with a dummy lockpick. The one shown in photo 2 (SFX Version) is only that size to accommodate the SFX.

The promotional (Thanks to 007 Gadgets for the Photo)

Andy – right about all of it

… but I was just looking at the frames and thought it was so funny that it was so fat when it liberates the gas… This was simply just to be funny, and share the information and fun….

Jeff – better make that two ;)

There was actually a version of this promotional keyfinder that had a working LCD. This was available only in Holland though.

Try as I did at the time of the film's release, there was no chance of getting Philips to send me one from there, but I did get the more 'normal' and available version from a UK dealer.

Does the Philips keyfinder have a part/model number on the back or packaging? I would imagine with that number you can still today track down new replacement parts and build a new one from scratch for about £40. Most Philips parts for just about everything including 1980's stuff are still available on the internet.

Welcome “the_saint” to ajb – I don’t know but perhaps the persons who have one in there collection could tell and then you could post the items numbers and links so we all could build one… :D

I'm not sure about the part/model number of the promotional key finder,
    but I have been recently informed that key finders are Philips Electronics own design -{

If you manage to find some vintage Philips key rings for example from eBay, you'll know what i mean ;)

Yes a part number is definately required to track down the Philips Keyfinder parts via this route as I've just enquired and they can't find it without a part number! In their defence there must be a million Philips mouldings, circuits, LCD displays, etc produced over the last 25 years or so. My Philips Volvo radio from late '80's still comes up (and could be totally rebuilt) so I think there is a reasonable chance of success of finding them, just need the part number! Must have one....

there is no part number - it is not an actual Philips item you know?
It is just a cheap promo/giveaway item - Philips just subcontract that out to those "promo type" company.
It may have a Philips name, but not made by Philips - like all those Coke memorabelia items not actually made by Coca Cola Company.

Well it was part of Philips promotional material, but as I stated before It's Philips Electronics own design and most likely
there's some numbers inside the casing, well most of the plastic molds have some sort of numbering system, but that doesn't mean you can find the casing from Philips spare part catalog ;)

    EDIT: Kan I surrender :D

I have no proof, because i got very short answer from Philips and then i made a few phone calls and this guy told me on the phone that I wasn't the only one who was asking after this item, (Why i'm NOT surprised :D )anyway he told it was their own make.

IIRC, the Keyfinder (the working one) was exclusively made by Philips (or by the propmaker who stuck the Philips label on it) for TLD Movie. It was never a sellable Philips product.
The promo items are as Kan stated in his post before.

Yes, I would say SD is quite deadly - not the bullet, but the lighter and the cigarette case can definitely kill you - sharp edges and ultra heavy - a direct hit and you will be out cold :))

I didn't know it wasn't made by Philips but that shouldn't surprise me as alot of stuff is subcontracted. I can't remember much about them at the time they came out apart from they were in the latest Bond film and kids at school excitedly talked about them and a couple possibly had them.

There will be a box of new, unused ones languishing in some ex-employees garage somewhere and his wife will be badgering him to throw them out as they've been sat there for years and what possible use could they be....

"there's some numbers inside the casing, well most of the plastic molds have some sort of numbering system, but that doesn't mean you can find the casing from Philips spare part catalog" - Might be worth a try though? Philips will be the type of company that will have a thorough record of every product they've "made"/been involved in even if it wasn't worthy of a spare parts supply.
