Goldeneye/ Trevelyan question

In Goldeneye opening, when Alec is shot - Bond then goes on to set the timer for 3 mins instead of 6. It blows up. As we know, Alec survives, wants revenge on England & Bond. why is Bond to blame when he saw Alec shot & assumed he was dead? I never get this. Was Alec actually injured by the general's gun-shot or did he pretend with (bullet-proof protection). i can't remember if he was shot near head or chest. sorry if this was clear to others, but it's always puzzled me. If Bond sees a colleague shot outright & is trying to escape for his life, how can he be to blame for Alec somehow surviving. If Bond knew he was pretending then i can understand Alec's anger for him changing 6 mins to 3. - Either way Alec turned out pure evil & was one of the most dangerous Bond villains imo. As he knew how Bond worked & could predict his methods. He looked evil & but was amusing with his lines. The fight scene with 007 was vicious & very well done.

It was his head. Bond would have seen Alec fake this with Oramov presumably using a blank (this would have even wounded Alec), because without blood and splatter effects, even across the room it would not have fooled someone as seasoned as Bond.
Yes, what else was Bond to do with the timer, but hasten his escape? Alec would have known Bond's reason's for changing the plan, as it was in tatters. It seems churlish to hold the grudge, and also to fake Alec's death so elaborately meant Bond would have had to escape all along to witness his death and close his MI6 file and mark him deceased.
This whole part of the story sort of fell apart. IMO :#

yeah essentially Bond was try to avenge his death by changing the timer on the bombs. So the fact that he holds a grudge because of it is something I never understood about GE.

I thought the whole point was that by changing the timer, Bond didn't give him time to escape, screwing up the caper and thus the burns and so on. His anger at Bond stems more from that than from any issue of brotherly rejection.

I never found him all that interesting as a villain, in part because they never really explored what it would be like for Bond to square off in a contest with another 00 -- he could have been any competent Bond villain with knowledge of espionage. Scaramanga seemed as much a threat as this guy did.
