Timothy Dalton as Bond Villian?

just thinking about it, he would be a good villian, a commanding presence who could no doubt be a menacing villian. What does everyone think?

Yeah, I agree. Whether Dalton wants to do it or not is another thing to take into account.
Bond's role is to defeat the villain, which means that Dalton's character must either escape or be killed. There's a certain ... 'aura' associated with being Bond, and ... well, I'm finding this very hard to describe, but it's like the torch being passed from one Bond to another. It'll give ammunition to the Craig fans when the question is asked, 'which is the better Bond?', and their answer will be 'Craig, he beat Dalton in a fight'. To use a Star Trek analogy, it'd be like Picard burying Kirk ... it's wrong, and it shouldn't be done.
However, I'd be all for casting Dalton as M. I think he can pull off a weary old sailor with a weather-beaten face. He can pull off 'grumpy' as well as Bernard Lee, I'm sure.
+1 I'd be thinking about that the entire time I was watching the movie
I have to agree with your point there.
It was the same for me with the second X-files movie. Billy Conolly had the part of a pedofile catholic priest with supposed psychic abilities. And he played his part well.
But I just kept thinking: "Oh look, it's Billy Conolly! He always makes me laugh!"
Have to agree he was great as Rassilon, but I felt the same way you did.
Exactly the point I was trying to make.
Ioan Gruffud would also be good choices. Just a thought.
while Ioan Gruffud is a great actor, I would then get the feeling of seeing Hornblower do Bond...
This. He's already been a Bond-style villain, and a great one, at that!
