I have some TFs coming (sadly not the blue lens) but I fear they will look to small on my big head, they look pretty small from the pics ive seen of people wearing them
I don't have either Persol but I have tried the 2720 and I have a pair of Persol 714s which are somewhat similar in construction. The 2720 were too big and square for me but I think they looked really good on Craig. Glass lenses are great and the frames aren't bad.
I've tried Persols similar to the 2244 and they aren't too bad, although they do feel a bit heavy. Also a bit too angular for me. Amber lenses are my preference in most of my sunglasses so that's a plus in my book.
Hate to say it but Michael Westen is the better spy in the sunglass department.
Prefer the Persol 2244s. The Non-Tortoise Shells
Have the Tom Fords and currently for sale.
And agree wholeheartedly Michael Weston does sport better shades than 007. In fact they are the ones I'm considering next.
Keep in mind that the TFs came in two sizes - they made a 57mm and a larger model (65mm, I think). The 57s are not as big as you think. They may suit you well, in fact.
I have the TF108s and the Persol 2720s, and I enjoy wearing both. Of the two models, I prefer the TFs as they are much slimmer in style and less chunky in frame. The 2244s were too big for me, so I didn't pick up a pair of those. But in all honesty, I prefer my Persol 714s and 649s (circa Steve McQueen).
Kind regards,
Craig
Hi Craig
Cheers for the insight, are you sure the TFs came in 65mm?
Did you make a typo and mean the TFs are not as SMALL as you think?
What size were Bonds 2720??
Cheers
I reread your post and noted that you said you had a wider face - sorry about that. I thought you had a narrower face like I do. The 57mm TFs might still be fine for you though. You'll have to decide when you get them - it's a personal preference really. I don't like oversized sunglasses, especially aviators. On women, they look fine - I like the Audrey Hepburn look.
The 2720s came in two sizes, I believe - 57mm and 60mm. I have the 57s. But in Persol's 714s, I own the 52mm; the 649s I own are 49mm. As for the 2244s, I believe they only came in 63mm.
Kind regards,
Craig
It's odd that they would have made that much of a jump in size though. Usually if a frame is available in more than one size, it's usually a two to three millimeter jump in lens width. An eight or nine mm jump would have made the glasses well over a half an inch wider, which is a lot more than it sounds. Strange not to have any in between sizes. BTW, 65 is an awfully large size for a glass that's not a wrap.
Was looking while typing and found an old, sold out Overstock page that has them at 66mm with a 10mm bridge and 115 mm temples. It would have to be a pretty severe wrap frame to need a 115mm temple. I'd bet on it being a misprint where they put specs from another frame.
I can't afford to pay several hundred dollars for sunglasses, but I was able to snag a pair of budget "replicas" from Sunglass Warehouse. Unfortunately, I can't wear them due to my very high prescription, but it's a cool, inexpensive piece of Bond memorabilia, & they'll be useful if I ever start wearing contacts or get Lasik.
