Why is this one more precious than the others? Why is this on the news?

It is a first gen S.D. GG, in my eyes worth the £1500, dont know why it is on the news though

I think the two best S.D. GG in the world are in my archive, the 1st Gen I bought from 037scaramanga, an expert in all things S.D. , I think even Bondtoys will vouch for him? He told me it was the best 1st Gen he had ever seen and that Guy saw a lot lol, My other S.D. GG was sd's personal GG and is unique, it is the only 2nd Gen GG with licencing details and has a prototype 1st and 2nd Gen Pen/Barrel, this was gifted to my Archive by my good friend DB -{ oh and not to forget the SD prototype GG :D

That is how one can be more precious ;)

Is there a thread about all the generations? I'd be really interested to see all those differences.

Does it mean that the first generation was the best, or just the rarest?

I might do a post on it at some point :) I just took it for granted most people knew.

The First Gen was the only true licenced GG that SD made, that licence had expired by the time the 2nd Gen came out, Some of the first Gen GG would fall to bits when picked up :)) but in my opinion both are very nice GG and part of Bond history and if you are lucky to own one keep hold of it ;) both GG are rare, the first Gen GG came in a walnut display case and these are almost as expensive as the GG its self, the 2nd came on a walnut plaque.

In other words 2nd gen is Unlicensed :o ;)

Well, they were sold as licensed, but in reality were probably not. Just like a lot of the Bond stuff they sold. I think the original license only extended to three items. Of course, the true expert on the subject would be Ed.

Yes Ed can confirm, but they lost their Bond Licence before the CCG merger, so do the Math, D.G. is correct. it is the first 3 items that were Licenced and all 3 came in walnut cases, these items were based on photo and screen research, after the initial release of S.D. items, S.D. and Ed had the opportunity to inspect the original props, although non of the items produced remain in the archive, only the GG and I'm not sure they got to see that?, he did come away with a blueprint for the original Rebreather and a few other items to research but for some reason didn't make his 2nd Gen breather like it.

I think that visit took place in 96? the licence expired late 97?

I just read on the Internet that they had they have run out of business? They didn't make money?

I don't know about the money side of things, but they had very bad press as they couldn't get the original products out to customers quick enough, this continued even with the Attache case, I think some waited 2yrs for that to turn up ?

At the end of the day, S.D.Studios produced some finest Bond replica props, and all of the items that they produced weather licenced or not command a high price, and rightly so, everything is very rare, you hardly ever see S.D. stuff for sale these days and it is outstanding quality, even if the first Gen GG falls to bits from time to time lmao

What's a fair price for a First Gen?

:)) almost, but not quite Andy, there are a few items I am still after lol, like I said you just never see anything for sale, and when you do it is so damn expensive :)) too many S.D. collectors and not enough to go round.

I had a look at the GG yesterday, and went to the auction today. The GG was missing a box, had quite a few scratches on it, and did fall apart in my hands. Went for £750.
  • danjaq_0ffdanjaq_0ff The SwampsPosts: 7,283MI6 Agent
Sounds about right with the scratches, will look sweet if whoever bought it has it re plated.

Pete, you know i'm getting in this conversation:)

and yes you own the best first gen GG.

there were actually three generation GG's or what i like to call the transition GG,

transition GG has a 1st gen lighter, 2nd gen pen, 2nd gen cufflink, 2nd gen bullet, and a unique cigarette case, the cigarette case in size is a 1st gen and does not have the slant on the lid, however, the case looks like a 2nd gen cigarette case without the protruding lines running down the case.

Dave Z. has a transition GG, sorry dave i called you out, i had two myself at one point

also, the were about 7 variations to the GG from the 1st gen GG to the 2nd gen GG

Pete, we would like to see pics of your 1st gen GG,

    037
