would not have worked, an american actor with a heavy native accent playing a british spy, no-no
It's interesting to note though that Robert Downey Junior becomes Sherlock Holmes, 39 years later in the 2009 film of the same name. It was directed by the guy who also directed Snatch (2003) so, there that is.

Poor Adam West . . . he's actually a pretty intelligent man and not a bad actor and the role he's best known for is the one that ruined his acting career . . . could he have played Bond? Maybe. He's sharp enough as an actor that he might have found something to do in the part that would have been convincing. I'm not sure I would have been crazy about him in the role, though. Interestingly, one can find youtube videos that show his audition for the role and compare them to Lyle Waggoner's . . . it's pretty obvious that the right guy got the role and just how much better he is in his performance.

I love Adam West---he made my childhood a blast Having read his autobiography, I can say that he's very grateful for the success Batman gave him, even if (as with the Bond actors) it became a bit stifling. He's said at some point that (paraphrasing) being a working actor means that you have to take what you can; work is work...and he's worked steadily through his golden years, trading craftily on his image.
But I'm glad he (and/or any other American actor) was never Bond. I'd much prefer 007 be as British as possible :007)

Take a close look at the movie Batman (1966). There is a lengthy sequence where he is Bruce Wayne in a tux. Granted, West is American and not really the type but...check out the fight he has with some goons. Cracking good dust-up and West moves like a shot in the tux.
If there is even ONE moment where Cubby/Harry were serious about West, this scene was probably what convinced them to at least talk to him.
If Roger had his moves and looked as good in a tux causing mayhem, Roger fans would be in heaven.
But West as 007? No.

I actually like the idea of Adam West playing Bond for that one film, coz it keeps in line with the fun, comic booky approach that was taken for Diamonds Are Forever. I can imagine him in that film but i cant really see him in Live and Let Die for instance or doing five or six movies. I also like the idea of Raquel Welch as Tiffany, think it would have been fun.

West as 007 has an awesome ring to it. At least to me it does. But I'm biased, my last name is West.
