James Bond: The Authorised Biography Unabridged Audiobook

Hi fellow AJB collectors,

I recently tried to buy this CD set from the BBC Shop http://www.bbcshop.com/audiobook-collection/james-bond-the-authorised-biography/invt/9781408403174/. Below are the details. However, due to licensing issues for the recording that they relayed to me via email, they cannot sell this item to anyone in the US, and likewise, BBC American and Canada do not have this for sale. Does anyone have a used copy that they'd like to sell? Or, maybe someone here in the US has a set they can loan? (of course, I'll pay for the postage :D) I only need a copy long enough to download. Thanks!

Wish I could help. Unfortunately, all I have is my first edition of the book that I read long ago. It would be cool to get as an audio book though, so thanks for the heads up. Anyone in the U.K. want to supply one to Superado and one to myself?

Do you think you could act as a broker for myself and Superado?

Thanks, Alexeberlin! What would be the next step for DG and me? Are you interested in selling your used copy?

Just to keep the interest up, I've decided to post an excerpt from the inside flap of my copy of John Pearson's The Life of Ian Fleming:

"Was Ian Fleming James Bond? Many think so. Certainly the super-hero and his creator had similarities - an aristocratic backgtound, sophisticated tastes, a fatal appeal to women, and intimate knowledge of the demi-monde of international spy rings.

Still Fleming disclaimed any relation to "that cardboard booby" he so felicitously invented. And well he might, as readers of John Pearson's breath-taking biography of Fleming will soon find out. For most of what James Bond could do Fleming did better. Unlike Bond, the author inspired great love as well as lust; unlike Bond he was brilliant, sensitive, and highly talented. And finally, unlike Bond, Fleming shunned violence as a solution to human conflicts.

In this fascinating book, which is a profound phsycological study, Pearson separates the creator from the created. He masterfully unravels the essential Fleming from the golden cocoon of illusion he wore around himself. He reveals that while Fleming incorporated his own adventures in James Bond's - his car accident in Munich becomes Scaramanga's lethal railway in The Man with the Golden Gun - Fleming also uses his creation to fullfill his own daydreams, and to alleviate his very real - and quite baseless - sense of failure. ..."

Would love a copy of this in audiobook form.

As a matter of interest, who's reading the book?

I've read it twice so far. As with the original Fleming stories, I've discovered a totally new way of enjoying the books in a narrarated format. The only exception in which I've gone the audiobook route first, is with the Andrew Lycett bio of Ian Fleming; for whatever reason, I doubt I'll even read that particular book in its entirety, in order, which is why I got the audiobook version. For those interested, the Lycett audiobook is available for around $30, but an app version for the iPhone or iPod is only $10 from the iTunes Store. I have a couple audiobooks of the Higson novels digitally saved as well, but I haven't listened to those yet.

I've read it twice too, but a long time ago. We're talking late 70's and mid 80's. I agree, listening to the Fleming Bond novels in audibook format is fantastic. Great to listen to while driving.

Thanks for the answers guys, but perhaps I should have asked the question - who's reading/narrating the audio-book.

Thanks for the germination of a new plot, Saint-Antoine! Audiogo is actually the retail media arm of the BBC. Indicating the USA generates the error message, "cannot ship to this region," but I see that Canada is okay (though BBC Canada doesn't have it in stock) Can you possibly broker a copy for me (and DG?) in the USA?

    Or,

...if you are one to download audiobooks and not care about keeping the CDs, maybe you'd like to split up the cost and arrange amongst ourselves a way of sending the CDs around to us (I will be perfectly happy once I have it downloaded).

    Hi Alex,

I got your response, but it didn't have your price plus shipping and if you accepted Paypal.

Did anyone in the US ever find a place to purchase this audio book? I tried several times to get through and order the book and was never successful. (And yes I am aware of the time difference between England and California. :)) )

I actually resorted to ordering and having it mailed to my in-laws in the Philippines...it took a while before I got them in my hands! I already downloaded the CDs into my iPod and are therefore selling them for $40 plus shipping. Please pm me if interested.
