In My Opinion, It's a Fun Movie. Some great Sets and Action sequences,J Barry's score is one of his Best. But I think the Films had got into a spiral of each Movie having to be Bigger than the last. Leading to YOLT which is a huge spectical of excess,Not much of Flemings work survives to make it to the Big screen. As a kid I loved it,Then again I loved Thunderbirds, and most Si-Fi shows so I would. But as I matured ( Like a good cheese ) It became just One of those Bonds I have to be in the Mood to watch. With Me it's like DAF and TMWTGG, All flawed for all sorts of reasons But still loved.
I think many Fleming fans dislike it because it strays so far from the Book. Others Because It's so easy to make fun of it, ( Dr Evil ), Yet it's an Idea used in many Of the Bonds,
Dr No, Toppling Rockets.
YOLT, hijacking spacecraft
TSWLM, hijacking submarines
Moonraker, Hijacking Space craft again ( well One at least )
.
Like many Bonds It's a product of it's era,Space Flight was wery trendy in the 60's talk of going to the moon,YOLT reflects this. Like the Energy Shortage in TMWTGG or The way water was used in QOS as It's becoming a scarce commodity.

I think Eon ruined Bond with the pigs breakfast they made with the continuity from yolt to daf, some people say daf is really a sequel to yolt but i dont think that works either because charles gray is nothing like the blofeld from yolt.
I do agree Denzil2222, Continuity between the films was Bad, I know others have pointed out DP in YOLT was a replacement for another Actor, P Hunt wanted a more Phisical Blofeld for OHMSS so enter T Savalas, then G Hamilton went in a more light hearted direction, And I don't think It would of worked with Telly In a dress escaping Las Vegas ) . As the older Bonds where made as Stand alone movies I suppose they didn't think it was all that important, But I agree It's sad they couldn't of agreed on an Actor for all three Movies.

I, for one, enjoyed YOLT quite a bit. It had its flaws, to be sure, but to me it is one of the most enjoyable Bonds. I especially liked the exotic setting in Japan, the fight scenes (e.g. the sumo wrestler KOed with a flower vase, the overhead shots of the fight on the loading dock, Bond leading the ninja force into Blofeld's volcano lair), the score (especially the title song), even Bond's cigarette mini-rocket launcher! Silly, yes, but still a guilty pleasure for me. It's the Bond that I re-watch most often (after Goldfinger, From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale)
I LOVE YOLT… although Connery is tired of the part etc – I still love it… butt hen again perhaps it was simply because it was my first Bond movie to watch -{
I have to agree with BlackLeiter and ics. YOLT has its flaws, we all know that, but to me it has that fantasy Bond feel of the 60's. It is easy to look back now and criticize a movie made 44 years ago, but IMHO it does have some great moments. It is just the most OTT Bond movie untill DAF came around. I love the japanese setting, the space plot (remember, this movie was made during the hight of the space race), Ken Adam's sets and the great (aerial) camera work by Johnny Jordan.
Anyway. What I'm trying to say is this: We all have our favourite Bond movies, it is just a matter of taste. And like ics' post points out, it is all just subjective. I like GE more than I should because it was my first Bond movie I saw on the big screen (had been into Bond for a few years because the older movies were often showed on television).
I also liked YOLT. It had one of the more interesting chase scenes simply because of the cars you saw in the background (to say nothing of the two primary cars). Many interested in the Japanese auto industry have forgotten that ten years before the gas crunch, the United States was exporting right-hand drive versions of its largest sedans to Japan. The 1959 Chevy Impala is, I believe, the only Japanese market Impala to appear in a film. Then there are of course the working (if unrealistic in their power) MBA Gyrojet rocket guns. It was quite a big kick to see these fire. In fact, speaking of kick (or, rather, recoil), you'll notice that not one of the ninjas reacts to the Gyrojet recoiling. This is NOT an error. The Gyrojet, being a spin-stabilized rocket delivery platform, had such minimal recoil that its inventor, Bob Mainhardt, used to take a rifle (not a pistol, a RIFLE) in each hand and empty the magazine as fast as he could. The History Channel's (well, now the Military Channel's) Tales of the Gun series shows Mainhardt demonstrating this in a video taken by the NRA circa 1965.
Then of course there was Little Nellie, another wonderful invention from another eccentric inventor. Unlike Mainhardt's Gyrojet series, Wing Commander Kenneth Wallis' lightweight autogiro gets a terrific introduction to the public and with another really cool, really fun chase scene.
And add onto this that women of East Asian descent tend to be my favorites in terms of physical features...therefore, I really liked Akiko Wakabayashi (especially), Mie Hama, and the short appearance by Tsai Chin.
Of course the capturing spacecraft thing was over the top and Connery probably dogged it a bit, but it had so much else going for it that I generally overlook that.
I think YOLT the film is pretty entertaining. It has plenty of memorable aspects including an alluring Bond-esque theme tune, a cool iconic bad guy, some excellent sets by Ken Adam and some beautiful scenery. True its certainly not Connery's best but it I do enjoy re-watching it now and again on a quiet afternoon .

GE was my first ever Bond film. To this day, I still consider it my favourite
Pigs breakfast?! You're mixing you're animal metaphors. It's either pig's ear or dog's breakfast.
