The World is Not Enough

Looking around the internet this is a film I often see being bashed. Having watched the film numerous times since I got it on dvd (the second ever dvd I brought) I don't think the level of criticism towards it always seems particularly fair. Granted there are some obvious weak points but it never stopped me from enjoying and the film and being interested by its story.

Yeh i agree. TWINE is not a bad film by any means. I actually rate this as Brosnan's 2nd best film and in some ways prefer it to Goldeneye.
I would put TND as 3rd and DAD definitely 4th in the Brosnan list.

I like it but it has a made-for-TV feel to it on the smaller screen, esp with all the actors who had their origins on the telly, Brosnan included. It's also not a colourful looking film, and as the gas oil plot never really gets going, it's very much about the soap opera element of Elektra King, that puts people off.

I like TWINE, although have always felt not quite satisfied when I watch it. I like most of the film, and I think the premise of the story is good but something is lacking. Also, I feel like it doesn't know whether it wants to be a dark, dramatic thriller or an action movie. I don't like the Christmas Jones character much, although the rest of the cast are very good in my opinion. Most of the film is like that for me: good, but with some unfortunate weakness.

My ranking of the Brosnan films is as follows:

1. Goldeneye
2. The World Is Not Enough
3. Tomorrow Never Dies
4. Die Another Day

I think it is unfortunate for Brosnan that only one of the films he was in was really memorable. I think he was a very good Bond, but the scripts let him down a bit.

TWINE is Brosnan's best film. Not as overrated as Goldeneye, has more substance than Tomorrow Never Dies, and not as goofy as Die Another Day.

Personally I think GE is still Brozza's best film (better leading Bond girl, a more memorable Bond theme and - for the most part - better action) BUT TWINE is right after that.

hell yea twine is a good film. good pts great chases and I love Elekra. She is hot but also soooo evil. Anyway it ranks as my second fav Brosnam film behind ge.:D:D

I think GE and TWINE are quite close - though ultimately GE wins out because of it having a better Bond girl and having a more consistent tone.

But, TWINE does feature Brosnan's best performance as Bond. GE's turn is a close second, but he's pretty great here, if not just for what happens to Electra.

I quite enjoyed TWINE, But found the Ski chase Pretty Boring.IMHO it lacks any drive or sence or real Danger. and the Ending on the sub was too cramped for me reminding me of TMWTGG. Also on a very petty point Brosnan's shoes in the Sub fight where very Un-Bond Tassles and a Buckle.

I had the same feelings about the ski chase.

After the rumor spread, that Bond 23 will have a ski chase, too, I sincerely hope, that they will get in touch with my country fellow Willy Bogner.

It is indeed underrated. My second favourite Brosnan film after GoldenEye and the first Bond film I saw in the cinema.

It's ok, but some of the action is poorly conceived (the ski chase, submarine climax) and it's quite confusing and therefore uninvolving in the first half - it's really difficult to get a handle on what it's meant to be about and what is going on. Watching it on TV a few weeks ago I came to the conclusion that Michael Apted did not do a good job on this one, nor did his editor Jim Clark, and quite why the usually reliable Adrian Biddle's cinematography is so bland is anyone's guess.

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of this often underrated entry in the Bond film series. I think the pre-credits sequence when Bond met with the Swiss bankers was some of Brosnan's best work as 007, and Sophie Marceau is in my opinion one of the most beautiful and best actresses of the Bond women. Too bad the character of Renard was not used to his full potential. That was the one flaw that I think keeps TWINE from being a top 5 Bond movie.

my ranking:

1. The World Is Not Enough
2. Tomorrow Never Dies
3. GoldenEye (misses out on second place coz of the ghastly score)

and I won't even mention the other one.
