OHMSS Opening Credits

this may be a stupid question, but in the opening credits for ohmss, it says, 'starring george lazenby', not 'george lazenby as james bond'. this almost seems like lazenby's appearence was a temporary thing, when in fact he was signed for 7films. Why did it say this in the credits? Has any1 else noticed this?

Actually, the films didn't start listing the actor "as James Bond 007 in. . ." until Live and Let Die. Starting with TSWLM it became "as Ian Fleming's James Bond 007 in. . ."

yep, im aware of that but my point is thus: in the previous films and future films it was always 'starring sean connery' on its own but in ohmss, it was 'starring george lazenby, diana rigg, telly savalas' etc, not stand-alone, why?, if he was supposed to do 7 films

Lazenby had not yet achieved enough star power to be listed individually. Also, Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas were popylar enough to share the top billing.

In Dr. No, Sean Connery's name is after the title, again because of his then relative obscurity.

I always thought Lazenby's name being shunted to after the titles was a result of his narking off the producers/director/co-stars/stuntmen/tea boy/Cubby's grandmother/et al, likewise the blood in the gunbarrel washing out Bond's figure (which happens in no other film). Guess I was wrong.

Lazenby was never signed for 7 films, EON wanted to sign him for that many after OHMSS but he turned them down.
