Ok, I have this guy, who's asking me over my contact form regarding James Bond Seikos. I am pretty sure, that he's a member here....
After 13 messages, he's now interested in the Moonraker Seiko and I have gotten this message today:
"how many metres is it wr?"
What should I reply?

you guys from scandinavia are weird, aren't you?? * ) )
Problem is, that the Moonraker Seiko is a > 30 year old watch.
What is responsible for the waterresistance are rubber gaskets and these age!
It's simply nonsense to expect a 30-year-old watch to be waterresistant still as is the idea to go swimming or sauna-ing with such a collector's piece.
It would be the same, if The Mantis would go gardening with his vintage Slazenger sweater from Goldfinger or do car-racing with a 1977 Lotus Esprit and ask, if it can run top-speed for 1 hour.
By the way, I would say the same, if someone would ask such a question for a Rolex submariner from the 60s....
*the asking guy is from Norway

Guilty as charged - yeah we're sometimes...erm....weird, but i'm speaking only from my behalf
Agreed you can't give any guarantee for waterresintance simply due the age of watch.
I was going to ask earlier that who on earth would want to have MR Seiko as divers watch LOL

I can safely tell you, that the watch will fail the pressure test. -{

the problem is more the relevance of the question. If he's asking for the grade of the waterresistance of a > 30yo watch, I am asking myself, why he's doing this and what he expects from this watch.
1. he may seriously consider swimming or diving with such a collector's piece. And that watch is really not the right one for such an adventure.
2. He wants to know, which pressure it could resist when it was new. That's a totally irrelevant information as the parts of the watch are 30 years old now, so that information would be of no use now.
3. He may pressure-test the watch after he's purchased it from me (for whatever reason) and this may result in trouble for me, if it fails this test. But how can someone expect waterresistance from a 30 yo watch? Are people, who are buying Jaguar E-Types now asking for the maximum speed?

Come to think of it....how many people actually use their Seamaster or Subs diving
.....actually I know some use the Subs...but then again, you can argue it looks more utilitarian than the more "pretty" Seamaster
So using a vintage watch for "real world" adventures can be like seeing fireworks. You wear it, enjoy a brief moment of ecstacy, then "phfft".
Oh, its depth warrantee seems to be just to the end of the large intestine.
