A note on FE Golden Guns

I just want to share with the members here some of the issues I have had with the FE golden guns - and as you can see I have handled a few.

There are definitely some QC problems with these GGs - I have seen them and so have many other members here. The important thing is FE will resolve all that for you if you bring it to their attention.

This is one product you don't want to keep unopened - you want to check and make sure as soon as you received it. So if there are problems it could be fixed. If not you don't know what you even have and FE can't help you as much as they would be able to now.

Some of the problems I have seen:

Loose lighter extension
Loose pen cap
Gold plating problems - blistering, tiny bubble spots, residue, scratch marks, etc.
Cufflink cannot be screw in - or is tilted when installed
Spots on signature plate

This post is meant to be helpful to members here - please do not delete again.

How many bullets were we supposed to get? I got one and had to send in the clip, base and signature plate to get repaired......

    Sigh.....

some people may not know but the lighter extension should not be loose - that is if you tilt it, it should not just slide out. If that happen, it need to be replaced.

I did not know that. :# I thought is was a little shoddy that the lighter extension just slid out but I assumed they all did that.

Well, you are not the first. So sorry to hear.
It should not be like that at all. Only 1 of my 10 had that flaw.
    FE replaced that of course.

But people need to know that is a flaw that need to be fixed.

Thanks for posting this info texas007. I went back and took my gun apart and it doesn't just slide out if I tilt it but if I give it even a slight wiggle it does. Its very loose.

It should not do that - you need to give it a push to get the lighter extension out - not supposed to be able to shake out.
I think you need to get your replaced asap.

Ya know....I hope FE doesn't get too upset with the problems they are having with this particular item and not do any more Bond stuff. I hope they keep it up....this had to have been a hard one to produce that is for sure. :s

Golden Gun is just a tough one to produce and to satisfy everybody's expectation.

Totally pleased with my two Golden Guns. Only 2 problems and minor:
    1) Missing Plaque from first one. - Replaced within 2 weeks.
    3) Missing "Blueprint" from the Second one. FE said they will replace. But still waiting and to be fair FE said ASAP?
Otherwise quality was spot on. No problems as described on here. Except for the packaging.

Haven't even got my SE Golden gun yet, I'm still waiting for FE to get me one without issues.
  • texas007texas007 Houston, Texas 77041Posts: 2,356MI6 Agent
All SE GGs should already be shipped out back last year
  • texas007texas007 Houston, Texas 77041Posts: 2,356MI6 Agent
Yours is SE? How did they just replaced the double signed plaque?
I would think the LE GGs would be better since they have all these problems with the SE and SE being the first batch of GGs delivered. I think FE is still trying to get caught up with the LE shipment which may have been delayed due to the QC issues.

It's gonna be interesting to see how mine is handled. I had to send in the base and the signature plate in addition to the cigarette pack.

    This is gonna be interesting....

what is wrong with your base?
  • bushwoodcountryclubbushwoodcountryclub Posts: 62MI6 Agent
It had the defects on the plate and the base where the plate sat in ha some major issues with how it was seated. It overburned the spot and made a big gap....

It's been over a month since Tom told me they were sending my bullets "today".

I sent him another email, reminding him. My Chunghwa pack is feeling sad.

That stinks....man I hope it doesn't take that long for mine. I have a gun with no base, signature plate and cigarette case! What do you call that?

From all the issues mentioned, I only got the loose pen cap.

I used a small strip of scotch tape inside the pen barrel - problem solved.

forgive me for this, but I know people are saying 'oh its simple, i just used a bit of tape and its fine' or 'just send it back, FE will give you a new one'.

ok, so these are suitable solutions, but in my mind there shouldn't be any kind of problems like this in the first place. its a mass manufactured piece, where quality control and details should be checked all the way through the production process. this isn't a fan made item where people notice bits and pieces that should and can be fixed, it should be right first time, straight out the box.

    Fully agreed with MG.

Same goes with shipping schedule etc.

I'll just hope IF there's next licenced prop coming out, it won't have any issues :s

I have just noticed something when I sent my email to Tom (USA) and Barry (UK) after 10pm UK yesterday. Both opened and read that email at exactly the same time? I have my emails "Back Stamped" to say when they recieve / open / delete etc the Emails. This never happens when I send other emails across time zones to multiple recipiants? Is Tom the only one reading these emails? Where is Barry?
