Dalton in GE, TND, TWINE, DAD

Personally, i think this could have worked if he had signed for goldeneye. IMO, it would not have had a Moore type feeling regarding age as he did age better then Moore, and did not look any older then Brosnan around 2002 aged 55/56. Being a Dalton fan it would have been nice to see this, however it was not to be

Goldeneye yes but none of the others.

Much as I love Dalton as Bond. Given the gap between LTK & Goldeneye, I think he did the right thing in passing on playing Bond again. All the extra publicity on the new Bond etc helped renew interest in the series.

If Dalton had stayed on for only GoldenEye, perhaps TND would've also benefitted if the script was written with him in mind in case he was tempted to return for one last film, much like TLD was originally written with Roger in mind for just that. As a result, certain elements for TND would've been better as the writer would've known what to write for Dalton instead of Brosnan.

He would have fit in the story line for GE better and that would have been a great final movie for him.

The main problem with the whole GE-DAD span isn't the actor playing Bond, but instead that the traditional Bond formula had become tired and cliched to the point where the CR reboot became necessary.

Dalton is still my favorite Bond, but IMO even he wouldn't have significantly improved the GE-DAD span of films.

Possibly not, but I seriously doubt that we would have suffered the invisible car and terrible sub-standard video game quality CGI of DAD. I think he would have 'walked' under those circumstances.

The Invisible car didn't bother me as much as the Totally awful CGI :# , I agree it looked like a computer game.

The invisible car wasn't so bad, and I thought it was a bit of fun. The concept has been worked with and mirrored projection imaging was in testing on tanks and artillery peices, as well as thermal mirrored sniper gillie-suits when I served ten years ago. The cgi para-gliding/wake-board surfing was cringible however. :#

To be quite honest, I think Pierce Brosnan did a phenomenal job in GoldenEye. It was the perfect movie to start his Bond career and i think his attitude fit the film perfectly. Plus, it would've been too much, in my opinion, to have Dalton go out on revenge and then have him betrayed in the next film following. Dalton's films were two of the best Bond films, but I think Brosnan coming in at GoldenEye was a perfect move. It helped shape his career and the entire Bond franchise of the 90s.

I have to second ZorinIndustries - while I wish we could have seen Dalton in more films, Brosnan's films felt like they were meant for his particular characterization of 007 and would've needed significant rewrites to mesh with Dalton's portrayal of the character. I don't doubt that GE could've been an interesting vehicle for Bond, but I did like the fan suggestion of having the theoretical 3rd Dalton movie be Colonel Sun.

I've heard that Dalton had in fact originally agreed to play Bond in Goldeneye.

However he called off the deal because commencing production was further delayed. He had said if the third movie had gone ahead as scheduled he would have done it, but as it was he decided to walk away and pursue other acting opportunities.
Roger Moore is my favourite 007 R.I.P.
