The Chukka Boot

I came across an interesting comment from The Mantis regarding searching for sunglasses: while they may look good on DC, they may not look good on YOU.

I keep this in mind, because I see that the brown Chukka boot is worn by DC in several scenes. I think they look GREAT, and while I wear the nicest looking Skechers I can find in black and in brown (think along the lines of the African Rundown), wearing them with both cargos and jeans, I'm still wearing white socks underneath, and it's time to class it up a little.

What are your opinions on these boots, and what are some good alternatives? I've seen Clark's desert boot on Zappos for only $100, so I know where to find some budget alternatives, but what do you think?

JZ… personal I would take the Clarks version (I have them myself) – they were the original desert boots… all others are just copies of them… I still think it was wrong for DC not to have Clarks if he wear desert boots… but hey I would also want him to go in loafers like in the book (Dalton had them on in all his movies)

Interesting about the Clarks, never knew they were the original type!! My Church Ryders are in the post however really fancy a leather pair like DC also wears.

I too have both the Clarks and the Ryder III's, but my Church's hae become my daily wear. Almost never wear the Clarks anymore. The Churchs are much more comfortable, IMO.

I currently have 3 pairs of brown suede desert chukka boots. I bought the Joseph Abboud "Brock" on clearance last year for $30, & it was my go-to shoe during the summer. Recently, I got the classic Clarks model, as well as a pair by Johnston & Murphy. I haven't had a chance to wear either yet (snowy, miserable Canadian winter), but I'm looking forward to giving them a day out soon. The J&M pair was super comfortable when I tried them on in the store, but you gotta respect Clarks for being "the original". Next on my list is a pair of nice black leather chukkas, like the John Lobb Romseys from Casino Royale.

A word of warning: The Clarks DB's run VERY large, so buy them in a full size down from your normal shoe size. For example, I'm normally an 11, but the Clarks boots in size 10 fit me just fine.

Were the Romseys black or dark brown??? Either a way I fancy a pair of lookalikes

Looks good. I'm personally not a fan of the crepe sole, I have the Clarks Bushacre II's with the harder rubber sole. Its not coloured matched to the suede, but its good.

The Church's, if you can save up for them, or just afford them, get them. I did and man they are awesome. One of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own.

In that image, DC's Ryder's look more rounded then mine, but it could just be the width of Craig's shoe vs mine.

As I was out running errands today, I guess I got inspired by this thread and also picked up a pair of the dark brown Clarks . I think they look good and I won't be paranoid if they get scuffed up a little from every day wear. A great alternative!

Fantastic! Can't afford the 7s, but I'll try the Levis 505 lookalikes when I visit the States.

Great looking polo. Now, what type of belt is appropriate here???

Holden posted some great close-up pics of the Prada belt here: http://www.ajb007.co.uk/post/438695/#p438695

It's a relatively simple design of black leather with a silver buckle. If you can find a belt with similar cross-hatched "Saffiano" texture, that'd be a bonus, but I suspect that it will be a difficult feature to find on a budget alternative. But IMO, any black leather belt with a silver buckle (which can be found anywhere) would make a great budget lookalike.

Regarding the jeans, I've found several pairs or 7s for around $100 at Nordstrom Rack. They probably won't be the movie accurate ones but great jeans non the less!

    They are fantastic jeans!!!

My Ryders arrived and I also picked up the Prada belt from eBay so im well chuffed :)

As a kid I used to wear Clarks Desert Boots, got a new pair every autumn. After years of wearing other kinds of shoes I really wanted another pair. So I bought a pair at the Clarks store in The Hague but after wearing them for a few days I noticed they are too narrow for my feet (or my feet are too wide for the shoes of course ;)) so I had to sell them. Since then I have been looking for an alternative. I found a pair of Dr. Martens (the Sawyer) that looked good to me and I have been wearing low cut Dr. Martens shoes for quite some time so I know they probably will be a good fit. However, I noticed Clarks has a different model Desert Boots by Pretty Green that is advertised to be a bit wider than the originals. I really like the look of the originals and would love to have a fitting pair of Clarks so I’m planning on dropping by the Clarks store tomorrow to see whether this version does fit my ‘huge’ feet.

Has anyone of you ever tried the Pretty Green Clarks? And if so, do you think they are wider than the originals or should I try to find another brand (Church excluded ;))?

I've got the John White version of the Ryder III... I don't think they are totally broken in yet, but decently comfortable so far. Although I really like Clarks in general, and I am almost liking the looks of those moreso than the JW's or Church's.

Paid a visit to the Clarks store yesterday to see if they had the Pretty Greens in brown. They did, just not in my size, so I tried on a pair of the white ones to determine the size I needed (UK 10). The brown ones in size 10 are being send to the store so they should arrive in The Hague later this week. From wearing the white ones I can say that the Clarks Pretty Green Desert Boots are VERY soft (trying to find a better word, but subtle is not the word I’m looking for and flimsy has quite a negative ring to it) they almost feel like a pair of shoes that you’ve had for a few years and just can’t part with because they are so nice to wear. Of course I don’t know how they will hold up after a few months of wearing, but I can’t wait to get my own pair to try it out. I’m not that happy about the fact that I have to pay extra (compared to the Original desert boot) to make sure Liam Gallagher doesn’t starve to death, but the extra width does make all the difference to me, so the Originals were not an option. I’ll let you guys know what I think about them when I get them (with a few pics to go along with it).

I am selling a new pair of westburys. They are dark brown suede. i love how they look but they don't fit me. They are well made. I am selling them for 120 dollars. They are UK size 9 which is a US 10 but they only fit someone who is a size US 11. that is why they didn't fit me. I am US 10 i thought UK 9 would fit me. IF you buy from me you will save a lot of money. Contact me at lmejia9@hotmail.com
