  • The CHURCHES chukka boots are xlnt if not the best in the top five.Who said the desert boots are CLARKS?Don,t look like CLARKS to me bit to shapely and the sole seems thicker. They might be CHURCHES desert boots or maybe GRENSON or LOAKES.I also favour the LEVIS 501 1966 shrink to fit .

Erm, they are on the Clark's web site which might be the reason?! Also they are NOT Churches or Grenson and certainly not Loakes since I have the Loakes Chukka Boots myself.

I've been away from this forum for a number of weeks and return to this?! 8-)

Which ones are these? I'm not too good at figuring models/colours from the pictures, but these are very nice looking :)

Are Clarks not very good? My wife has several pairs, and loves them.

    Still need this desert boot!

Get the Church ryder IIIs. Great shoes!
  • BLU8BLU8 Ontario, CanadaPosts: 418MI6 Agent
I've heard these are a bit bigger size wise...for someone who wears an 11W normally...what size do you all recommend (As I cant try them on in person - ordering online)

    thanks!!

If you're referring to the Clarks Desert Boots, in my experience it's best to order them a full size smaller than what you normally wear. I'm usually an 11D in most shoes, but I bought the Clarks DB in a 10.

I'm really digging this boot. I notice he's wearing it with the black/navy cardigan in this scene:

The website StyleForum does a pretty good job at keeping updates on Clarks' sales on their site, but I like the Bond-specific updates from this one, as well.

    From my Polos thread:

These shoes are Sonoma Desert Boots. $40, and I'm not impressed. Though comfortable, they feel cheap. I can't remember the desert boots I tried on in the States, but they were of much better quality, and only $80.

I have a pair of Clarks that I would like to sell. They are a 9M, and too big. I wore them once for about an hour. I got the Banana Rep. Moro boots and they are perfect. Sorry but CONUS only please. 60$ plus shipping.
That's a Smith & Wesson, and you've had your six.

And here are the U.S. Polo Assn boots:

    $29.99.

Maybe I can take a brown marker, and help fade out the stupid logo...

I'm returning the shoes, BTW. They're just flimsy and cheap. The brown even looks cheap on them. All of this research, and I still prefer the dark, rich colors of the Church Ryder IIIs, the Tom Ford polo and the Tumbled Rigid wash (similar to the 7FAM Mercer wash) on my Levi's. Damn! :s

Sorry to hear that the boots didn't work out. IMO, the best budget chukka boots are still the classic Clarks: http://www.zappos.com/clarks-desert-boot-brown-suede

They're a little pricier than some of the other models & alternatives, but it's definitely worth it for the higher quality.

Amazon has more sizes. The sizes marked as D (M) are sold directly by amazon (double check though under the price) so those are trustworthy if your size isn't on Zappos. Some of them are lower priced than Zappos too. Clarks are great.

I have these Clark's and much prefer this sole to the crepe sole on the regular ones. Plus these are cheaper. They are called the "Bushacre". Check ebay as well. Not many sizes left at famous footwear online site.

Next in Manchester had a version in a dark brown, 2 lace holes and a crepe sole for £50. Looked a nice shoe. I've just checked their website & it's not showing up on there, so apologies for lack of a link or picture.

The Bushacre has darker suedes and lighter beeswaxes for anyone wondering.

Question about the boots/shoes worn. Just how many different pairs of the desert boot style were worn between the two films?

The picture in this thread with Craig running up the steps in QOS appear to be dark brown with a lighter tan-like sole(similar to Clark Bushacre). Other scenes like with Mathis in the cardigan the boots are brown with black sole(Church ryderIII style).

Are they different boots or are the soles just dusty making them look lighter?
  • welshboy78welshboy78 Posts: 10,320MI6 Agent
They def don't look like my Church Ryder III in that famous running photo. Well the soles are certainly different

Pretty sure its just movie distressing, and lots of dust. Look at his planted foot, and you can see that it's the Ryders.

As far as I know, each film featured a different model of chukka boot. Casino Royale used the John Lobb Romsey: http://www.johnlobb.com/en/shoes/ready-to-wear/boots/romsey-ii

They were seen in brown suede & black or dark brown calf leather during various points of the film.

QoS had Bond wearing the Church's Ryder III in dark brown suede: http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?colset=1&style_id=358&shoeID=1083&brandID=4&catID=17&oldcolID=624&seconds=&colour_id=623

These were a staple for Bond's casual outfits in the movie.

I agree, there are some closer photos that show a lot of dust put on him.
