Actually have a pair of the John Whites...nice construction, and the only sole that mimics the real Church's... might put mine up for sale though, as in this type of suede boot I'd almost rather have a more casual cut.
Tried on some Clark desert boots. Just as everyone said I had to try a size below my normal shoe size. And it was loose in the heel. They looked nice except for the soles that were strange. Overall they didn't feel very comfortable. Maybe with some cushioned inserts they'd be a little better. For the price I wanted them to feel better out of the box.
I may try a slightly different style and just have the boots be close in color and have them feel and look nicer. I'm not worried about them being totally accurate anyways.
For what it's worth, I got the Clarks Desert Boot in brown, and as other's have said, the salesman strongly recommend I go a half size down (I normally wear US 8.5 and I got an 8.) For the first week or two they felt kind of weird and uncomfortable, and I thought maybe I made a mistake. However, after the break in period, they rapidly softened up, and are now the most comfortable shows I have ever owned! The fit like a glove, and the salesman was definitely correct in his sizing advice!
I have always loved chukka boots (actually, I've always loved good shoes, I'm a male version of Imelda Marcos) but find the Church's a little out of my price bracket and the Clarkes, well, cheap. As such I go with the Australian R.M. Williams "Simpson" in brown suede and, with this latest pair, the "comfort" sole. They run (as it were) to about A$380. The leather sole looks good but lacks grip when chasing villains. R.M. Williams have just released a cheaper version with crepe sole (about A$150) can't for the life of me remember what they call it though.
I went shoe-shopping today. I wasn't looking for Chukka-style boots, but when I happened to come across this pair, I was reminded of this thread and decided to get them:

These are desert boots, and looser around the ankle. Same color, look just as good.

Those say black suede on the site, but is it brownish like the picture or is there a specifically brown model?

Bass Belmont in black suede. They have brown too, but black suits the outfits I wear more readily.
I only paid $49.99 for them at the Burlington Coat Factory which is significantly cheaper than I find them online.
Extremely comfortable. Almost feels like wearing a sturdy pair of socks or something. They fit the shape of feet very well.
And the soul even looks like the churchs!
Gonna get me a pair of these!
Those look really nice! But black suede? You must wear a lot of black, because that's the only colour that doesn't go with brown.
Very nice...
Yup. Well, not always black but I tend toward dark hues. Besides, it's autumn!
Maybe someone knows how to put the laces?
Those are gorgeous, BTW. Just gorgeous. Does it come with any suede care accessories?
