Where's the Gunbarrel?

Daniel Craig's films have both lacked a proper gunbarrel to open the movie. Does anyone know why this is? What are your thoughts on the situation?

Like many, I want the gunbarrel back at the start. Why they wanted to F**k about with It I don't know. :#, New ideas I suppose. Sticking it at the end of QOS was another silly idea, at the viewing I was at most people had their coats on and where heading out so either missed it of watched if over their shoulder.
As it has been used at the end of QOS, Hopefully it will be back at he begining of Bond 23. In a way I can see why they didn't want to use it for CR, as bond had just been mad a Double Zero.

I was more than happy with what they did with the 'gunbarrel' for CR...I thought it was a touch of genius in fact :D
QoS....well, it could have been at the start but, as this film is supposed to carry straight on from CR, I can understand just why they didn't....personally I have no complaints at all....and as I'm one of the 'sad old farts' that sits through the first showing of a new Bond film until the credits have ended (much to the chagrin of the cinema staff :)) )...I didn't miss it at the end either :))

I'm sure it will be back at the start of Bond 23.

It should be there. At the beginning of the movie.
    It must be there.
    It belongs there.
    It should have stay there.
    I want it there.
It's "the right thing to do" to have it there.
It's not big and it's not clever not to have it there.
On my copies of the blurays that I bought, my friend friend has put it there. (My friend is one of those high-tec genuius types, my very own little M.)
It was there for 21 movies, put it back and leave it alone.

    Somethings really miff me off.
Putting Bond in a german car and getting rid of the gunbarrel are two things that really, really miffed me off.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really am hoping that it's back in Bond 23. I'm reading everyone's posts and I'm kind of developing my own theory. CR showed how the gunbarrel came to be and the evolution of the whole 007 aspect. Quantum of Solace, being a continuation, sort of makes sense that they didn't have it as well. I feel they should have stuck it at the beginning of the film, but at least they did include it. It would make tons of sense if Bond 23 has it at the start. Thanks again everyone!

Hello everyone, I am new here and thought I would chime in on this one. At least in QoS it was the FULL sequence, the white circle going across the screen and then coming back with Bond in it. The one in Casino Royale didn't even do that. I don't have a clue why they feel the need to mess with it.

Did any of you notice that there were signature Bond lines that weren't used AT ALL? The most important is: "the name is Bond... James Bond and they barely get it in CR, not at all in Quantum of Solace.

I do like Daniel Craig as Bond though. Trust me, it took some doing. I like his "I'll beat the hell out of you for the answer I want" and his sarcastic sense of humor in Casino Royale. I also liked that they made Bond a believable living character, not some super human like in the past films. But they can't let that go forever though.

The only response I can make to this is CR and QoS tell one long story. The gun barrels are bookended. The first gun barrel starts at the beginning of the story. The gun barrel at the end of QoS signifies the end of the story. That's also why we only hear the signature phrase once. That's the way I look at it.

I thought the end of Casino Royale when he said the line after shooting Mr. White was very good - like we had arrived at Bond. It also went well with the "You Know My Name" soundtrack. QoS was the 2nd part of one film IMO. I tend to hedge my bets that we will have the proper format next time out. I imagine there will be the gunbarrel, pre-title sequence etc just like before. Fingers crossed!

I think a bit of Hitchcockian imagery is called for, like at the end of North by Northwest when the train goes into the tunnel.

So half-way through the film, as Bond is about to hit climax in a sex scene, they should do the gunbarrel then! Then it should cut to him going, "Bulleye!" Just to lighten things up a bit.
