Blofeld cloning procedure/yuckiest death EVER! PLEASE EXPLAIN!

I can't help but just watch the opening scene from the film Diamonds Are Forever over and over again and just wonder, why does Blofeld use mud baths as part of his plastic surgery technique?
I really feel for the henchman who Blofeld ordered to get into the mud bath. He either had his feet strapped to the bottom of the mud bath (explains why he couldn't get out!) or he was given the biggest pay rise ever (more than what Connery was paid to star in the film for!). In the scene, 3 different stunt men played the mud bath man, with actor/stuntman max Latimer being given the honour of having his face dunked under the muck, lifted out by Connery, splashed with water, and then left to sink back under the muck. Poor actor.
Please reply to me, I'd really like to talk about this unusual scene

In a way, this is a rare hangover from the novel, which features a rough and ready kind of spa where blokes would go to be bathed in mud as a kind of treatment, like a sauna. Bond goes there, and witnesses a brutal punishment meted out by Wint and Kidd to a jockey who threw a race or didn't comply with whatever he was meant to do in it. This meant a load of scorching mud dropped on him.
It's not really the same in the film in context, and I'm not sure about the purpose of that bubbling pool is either. Maybe the mud is to acclimatise the skin?
Welcome to ajb, mudbathman!

Or perhaps the body was never discovered and his body was left to rot in that filthy mud. How cruel of the Clone Blofeld to mock the man's death, "making mud pies, 007?". He should have called for a medic to rescue the man from the muck. For all we know, Bond could have pulled him out of the muck and resuscitated him. But he just took one look at the man's face, before just letting him sink back under the muck.
The cut of this poster's jib reminds me of someone. If so, welcome back!

I don't know if I'm the person that you reminded Napoleon Plural of and I haven't been back for awhile. But when I first joined the very first thing I did was to start a similar sort of thread.

But I must say this for MudBathMan. I'm positive he definitely is not the same person. I contacted him via e-mail to tell him I had shared the link to my own thread and he thanked me and asked if I could chat with him further about the mud drowning moment personally. (If you read this MudBathMan I've been very busy but I will reply to your e-mail when I can)
He seems like a very nice fellow and he's obviously quite fascinated by this extraordinary scene. I have to admit so am I.
It's the slightly over-egging sympathy for a dying Blofeld henchman accompanied by come by the innocent enquiries that did it for me. Like poor mean Clone Blofeld, no consideration at all...
