If not Walther PPK in Dr. No, what other gun?

The iconic Walther PPK that was certainly a step up from that Beretta model 418 that Bond toted around. What other gun could have been assigned to Bond?
I nominate Smith and Wesson model 39.

*gun has to pre date 1962

Mauser HSc in .380, another alternative for Bond. German made originally for commercial but was adopted for military and police service.
The walther ppk was never used in DR NO. It was a walther PP.

It is strange however that in the part about the M1911A1 it is mentioned that Dent used a S&W revolver in the novel when Dent didn't appear in the novel whatsoever.... Reading that, I'm not really convinced the rest of the article is very accurate.
Imfdb is not always accurate, much like Wikipedia.
No doubt the script contained the line, "that's a Smith & Wesson", no one expected the films to be viewed over and over or paused. Back in those days a gun was a gun.
