Suggestions for a Newbie

Firstly, I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere. If so, do delete this.

I discovered 007 around a month ago (I'd only ever seen a few minutes or so of Russia, Majesty's and Octopussy prior to this) when I decided to start reading Casino Royale while walking to and from school. I completely loved it and am now almost finished From Russia With Love and my reading activities have driven me to seek out the Doctor No DVD (which I love*).

As a new fan, which others films and novels would you suggest I seek out?

* Oh, who wouldn't?

You seem to be doing the serious stuff. Read Live and Let Die, the follow on to Casino Royale. Go to ebay and buy a book with a great cover, one of the Pan 1950s versions or the one with Roger Moore from the film's poster on the front. Or/And read the novel Dr No, which follows on directly from FRWL the novel, compare with the film. Again, get one with a good 1950s Pan cover, or the film tie-in one from 1962 with Connery on the front.

Read Jeffery Deaver's Carte Blanche, as it's current Bond, an unlikely occurrence these days.

Then stick to the first four movies, in no particular order, that is Dr No, FRWL, Goldfinger and Thunderball. Then the film Live and Let Die, and Dalton's The Living Daylights.

That should keep you going. Avoid the latter day, outlandish stuff for now.

The novel and film On Her Majesty's Secret Service is very good. The new Casino Royale movie is also very good and surprisingly close to the book.

If you read the novels then you really would benifit reading them in order. Bond evolves and matures in a way unlike the films (except for this Casino Royale/Quantum of Solace reboot thing). There are also references to previous novels in the series. IMO the classic Bond films are Dr. No through to Thunderball, OHMSS, Live and Let Die, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye and Casino Royale (2006). Of course, opinions will vary...

definatley read the novels in order. I enjoyed the movies that much more after reading the novels. but you have a long road ahead of you enjoy it.

What fun, to be reading the novels through for the first time.
You can also find the Pan editions in used book shops if you're lucky.
Got a whole mess of them when I was younger. That was decades ago at this point

so YMMV.
