Buy the DVD?

QoS was the first Bond film I haven't bought on DVD at the initial release date because of my opinion on the film. I wasn't very fond of the film in theaters, but should I give it a second chance on DVD?

I have said here before that QoS is almost a different film on blueray with a decent HD tv (on my 32" at least). On dvd on a smallish tv in the bedroom it's not so good - the shaky camera work is just terrible.

Before you buy it, rent it first. You have Netflix? If not, some stores have walk up kiosks you can rent movies from. Usually it's only overnight rental though.

I would say no. I'll only get Quantum of Solace, Die Another Day, Tomorrow Never Dies, Goldeneye, and The Man with the Golden Gun in some sort of complete 2K/4K Bond pack. I've attempted to watch Quantum of Solace many times in HD at a relative's that has HBO/Showtime. The opening of the movie is still awesome but everything else is sorely lacking compared to the almost classic Casino Royale. Quantum really is in the style of the Brosnan action fest Bond movies.

If you have the rest of the movies, it might be better to add to the collection, regardless of the film itself

QoS was the first Bond film I did not buy the DVD, or previously the video tape, for. I still haven't and I have no intention to in the future. I don't like the film, no reason to spend the money.

The special features are lacking on the Blu-ray. Every disc should have at least one commentary from the director. If any Bond film needed one it's this one. Instead there's only a couple of short featurettes with some words from Forster and Craig. QOS is due for a deluxe edition upgrade like CR. Maybe next year when the other Blu's come rolling out?

I liked the movie more at home on Blu Ray, especially if you watch it within a few days after Casino Royale, as Quantum's story and success as a movie is far better when it is put together than when the confusion of Quantum of Solace is tested alone.

I agree on commentary. Tons of people were wondering "Why?" with so many decisions in the film so the director could have explained it. I would love a Collector's Edition Blu Ray like Casino Royale's (which I bought two of, one with a cardboard slipcover that I didn't receive on the first one I bought for some reason).

True. First time I watched it I hadn't seen CR in months. Then I did it 4hr epic movie style watching them back to back. Been hooked on QOS ever since.

You should always give something a second chance.... hey, even a third or fourth... especially if it's a series of films that you normally like.

I think it might grow on you... I'm sure you can pick up a very reasonably priced copy on e-bay.

I've given Quantum of Solace more chances than I can remember. I'm sure more than 10. This is more than any other movie. Although, only the first one was a full viewing. Every time I watch the movie I find something that makes me wonder what they were thinking. Now, the director is starting to blame the script for the movie.

I guess it's the real marmite of the series... hate it or love it.... not many people inbetween...ahh well... if you don't like it, then you don't like it... not much to say to change your mind... ;)

The thing about Quantum of Solace is I actually like the opening. Love it. One of the best Bond openings and chase scenes ever. However, the opening should have the gun barrel. That really is the sign that something is wrong. Yet, I even thought that freeze frame thing with Bond opening the trunk was cool. But when the titles song started playing with the really bad singing, the movie begins its true downhill slide. It makes mistake after mistake. Destroying all the work of Casino Royale.

The only way to watch QOS is to watch it immediately (within 24 hours) after Casino Royale. As a stand alone movie, it is not so good. But as the direct continuation, it is much better.

I watched CR and QoS back to back a few months ago, as I thought it might make more sense. Sadly all that happened was that the contrast between the two films became even more apparent. C'est la vie.
