Although it's not a bad buy for a replica...this is NOT the correct AR-7 stock as used in the film.
That one was a solid brown stock made by Armalite...not a black stock made by Charter Arms.
The original stock also had an indented groove on the underside with the Armalite logo on a plaque inserted.

Jimmy, I would suggest repairing the crack, sanding the entire stock down to a smooth finish and then a good paintjob to match the one in the film.

    Cheers Ed,

Thanks for your notes. Valuable info for me!!
I know it is not the correct stock. But this is as close as I can get here on the other side of the world :D
AR-7 may be popular in the US, but here it is very rare!

Do you happen to have a photo of the logo plague in situ?

JimmyBondi Glad you got the stock .... I appreciate
what the guys are saying especialy Ed.. I know it
aint the correct ( exact stock ) but the best
and most accurate alternative to us guys in the UK
I plan to make a metal paper cap firing receiver and
barrel etc that will go with my Charter Arms Stock
for my New Replica attache case, ( in progress )

I got my stock from Tom in America as part of the
Glovebox Rifle project for his Work of Art Aston
Martin DBS ..... Cheers Tom :007)

Thanks for the link Christof. I really admire your 'homemade' receiver.
But I guess my welding skills are not as good as yours...

I have been browsing softair spare and tuning parts now. Maybe I could use some of these for a start.

    Guys,

here is a WIP update on the FRWL AR7 project.

Thanks to a friend I got a resin cast of the AR7 receiver. He is a Star Wars collector and as you may know the AR7 was also used for some of the SW blasters. As it was full of air bubbles I got it for free :)

    27062011776.jpg

Here is a dry fit with the stock that I got from ebay

    27062011783.jpg

I have filled the holes and sanded everything down

    30062011784.jpg

As suggested by Ed I have sprayed the stock in a brown color tone to simulate the wood

    03072011790.jpg

Is there supposed to be some wood grain visible on the stock, or is it plain color? Is the stock end cap the same tone as the stock or is it different? It is hard for me to tell just from the dark screen caps.

No wood grain on the FRWL original, just brown plastic. Nice Job

    Looks good.
You now only need to make a tapered barrel.
I think I know who made the cast...

    Thank you for the comments.

Christof, you are right. I am thinking about a tapered barrel - Laws are prohibiting the real stuff, so I was looking at the Airsoft market, but did not find the right one yet. Next idea would be to vandalise a ski pole. I am just not sure if it will be the correct diameter.

Yeah, the cast looks familiar to me, too :D

    Cheers All,
I have a real, complete later type AR-7 with black stock for sale.
    PM me if interested, $250US.
Can ship to the UK in pieces?
Separate shipment for the stock, barrel, and trigger mechanism?
If it is OK to buy just gun parts in the UK...

OMG!....Is that SO19 I hear kicking in the front door? Seriously guys the only parts of an AR7 which can be imported into the UK are the stock and end cap....Period!

A very well known Bond associated personality had a PAK P99 imported into the UK a bit at a time, got caught but got let off because of who he is...Joe Public would not be so lucky.

Additionally I'm pretty certain that A.T.F. would have something to say about a weapon without the correct documentation being exported from the US.

hey jimmy, just if you didnt know, them air bubbles are technicaly refered to as 'microporosity', which is usually found when whoever opens the mould says in a rather loud voice; 'ah FFS!'.

its caused usually by vacuuming the casting too much when the resin has just been poured. some people think you'd cure it by vacuuming even more, but the best way to get rid of/avoid it would be to pressure the mould directly after vacuuming. the pressure shrinks the bubbles to a minute size so you don't see them.

if however you can't get rid of it, the easiest fix is get some fine filler (the stuff in a tube, not the type you mix up) and add to the filler a small amount of cellulose thinner (gun wash will do). then you can attempt to fill all them little bastard bubbles. the filler on its own is too thick to get into the small craters, so the celly thinners thins it down so it can, the the celly eveporates et voila, craters filled.

hopefully if you guys didnt already know that, now ya do.

Thanks for the advice on the microporosity, MG. Will think of it next time :D

I am at the barrel now. I just hacksawed my old ski pole last night. I know the diameter of the barrel which goes into the receiver and I know the diameter of a .22 is about 5,5mm - but can anyone with access to the real barrel help me with the barrel diameter at the muzzle side? TIA

the plastic barrel on mine is roughly 10 or 11mm at the muzzle. i was gobsmacked when i got it and found that the barrel itself is rifled steel, with a plastic jacket round it. the wall thickness of the actual barrel can't be anymore than 1.5mm

anyways, from memory i'd say the dia of the barrel at the muzzle is about 11mm

Plastic? You must be joking! ;-)

My ski pole muzzle end is 10,5mm so should be accurate enough for me! :)

    Thanks for the help!
