Well, Brosnan was supposed to be in five films, too, and look what happened there. . .

    Anyway, nice article. Thanks, DM!

No probs. Then again, Brosnan did do five films if you count "Everything Or Nothing" a part of the series.

Given that an average Craig Bond film Takes Four years, He's going to Be looking very Old by that fourth Film. Sir Miles :))

I think Five films is enough for any actor ( No matter how good ), so long as they can get a good script. Then given a two year gap ( if they get back to that ), Thay would basically give you a new Bond every decade, Hopefully that would stop things getting stale.
It would also give every actor a good run to put their own take on the character. Also I don't think anyone would want an Old Bond again, Although as I'm getting older Sir Roger is looking younger and younger in AVTAK. :D

I like Craig a lot so that is good to me, but I am not upset if people want him to end with a trilogy. His films take a while and are hard for stubborn classic Bond fans to accept.

    Stubborn, "Unreasonably Obstinate",

I always thought my reason for not liking Craig's Bond was Reasonable. :p
Or am I just being Obstinate again. :))

I really doubt that he'll do more than one more after 23. Personally I would like to see a triumphant 23 as his zenith and Mark an end point to his tenure for two reasons: firstly I just feel/fear that he will be too old if we assume two years between outings he will be 'pushing it' and his physicality has been such a big and defining feature of his Bond. a secondary concern is that after a largely triumphant CR and an at best divisive QOS a great 23 would be a great way to sign off, and besides we will be ready for a change and perhaps a return to a more readily classic Bond in terms of look.

the problem with craig is that he's taking the bond character down a path that he's never been down before. it all depends on how long they feel like they want him to continue down that path. if they want bond to get back to the upper-class, suave bond that pierce played they'll pull the plug much sooner.

Personally I would like to see a hybrid whereby Bond is suave and more recognisably 'officer class' but retains the hard edge, and has moments of enjoyment in his tough life. So for me it's not 'this' or 'that', but both. I think that DC will manage both credibly in 23.

I have to say Craig is onto something with his Bond but the window won't stay open indefinitely.... There's also the sense of how long do they have to nail it. Frankly he looks younger these days than he did a few years ago with Flashbacks of a Fool... He has a certain charisma thru not givina away too much in interviews, not being a media whore, but clock is ticking really. It's like he's being given the chance to impress for the England team with his A-list films but if he doesn't then it's okay, back to Bond then...

I guess money talks and they will keep him on this path until the films start dipping $ wise.

Will be interesting to see where this movie goes or wether its an extension of the other two. I feel something has to be a little different this time around otherwise it will become stale like the Bourne Trilogy

I wish they'd film 23&24 at the same time. LOTR style. Then release 23 in 2012 and 24 in 2013.

Knock em out two at time so age and time aren't a factor. Won't happen but it is a solution none the less. Who doesn't want a Bond film every year? This is a trend the franchise should jump on!

I think he once said that he will keep making Bond Movies, for as long as Eon want him... and he can without falling apart.
I think he really overdid it in QoS - and he admits that too... so it will be interesting to see how 'physical' he will be in the next one.

I reckon at least one more after this... and hopefully another.... but I guess time will tell. :007)

The Craig era is to me, what the Moore era was to Loeffs and others. I can't wait for it to be over. He is SO not James Bond. :#

Nice thought....but impossible...too much money to tie up for a start...and the Bond cash cow will need to be properly milked and releasing them so close will not allow that....

It could cause quite a delay to double the size of the project like that... Bond 23 is taking long enough. I can't imagine them ever putting together twice the writing, locations, and product placement in a timely manner. LOTR was different as it was fairly tightly woven in location, story, and style, so it just made more sense to have those film as a group.

It can be difficult when you feel a little left out that way...I've been lucky in so far that I've always managed to enjoy the tenure of whichever actor that has been playing Bond at the time....some I prefer more than others...I thought Brosnan did a great job - just his scripts were lousy....DC has been fantastic in his two films so far....and I can't wait for the third from him...and hopefully a couple more after that...
    Sorry you feel that way Barry - maybe I will feel how you do now when you get the actor you prefer... -{

Craig has made James Bond interesting again, taking him from a cookie-cutter contemporary model type going through the standard motions and 007 cliches to a hard-edged throwback to the meat-and-potatoes men of another era -- and I hope that he continues as long as he can. By starting his Bonds with a physicality we haven't had so much as a glimpse of since Connery's days, they can chart a similar course, giving his films more gadgets and vehicle stunts as Craig ages, and, ironically, taking his Bonds closer to the average movie-goer's image of what James Bond is. In this, he will evolve naturally into the Bond we all know and have seen before. Meanwhile, I'm hoping for more character-driven Bonds with some exciting sequences, a la Casino Royale.

while i like that they took bond and made him more human, more deep....i don't know if it will stick as a long-term solution. i don't think it can. otherwise bond is going to turn into every other action movie star out there. craig, i think, is the transition bond. he's going to stick only for a bit longer until they compose the new bond image, and then they'll cast someone as a long-term idea for that role.

Bond is what it is. Like every other action film or not, it's still Bond doing it. That's all you can hang your hat on. No jokes, gadgets, or other fella are going to help the franchise much. There's a saturated action film landscape, and Bond has to keep up or get laughed away. Satisfying a few nostalgic Bond fans isn't the way to go any time soon.

The "Bourne" quick cuts and shaky cam type things are already becoming passé with all of the complaints the last couple of years with them in several different films. That's one QOS complaint I can agree with. It doesn't bother me physically, but at the same time it's not my favorite little editing trick.
  • ThunderpussyThunderpussy Behind you !Posts: 63,792MI6 Agent
Bourne was know for its "Four second" cuts, which did work, sadly QOS tried to ram this up with some cuts of "Two Seconds" which simply is not enough time to take in what's happening. Sill I agree I don't think the editing will be as frantic the next time. After all if they do get around to filming a big stunt sequence on the trains of India, I'd like to be able to see it, and appreciate all the stunt teams hard work. :))
