I suppose your favourite Bond director is basically the director of your favourite Bond film....
I loved how Peter Hunt directed OHMSS...plus his editing work on the previous Bonds was revolutionary....
Terence Young did sterling work in setting the formula for the Bond pictures...and in helping Connery with his portrayal of Bond...
Both Guy Hamilton and Lewis Gilbert took things up a level...Martin Campbell brought 'Bond back' when it was needed too...and John Glenn did a credible job across his tenure - and he had mixed scripts to work with...

I find this a hard question to answer, because the directors who handled more than one film weren't entirely consistent; case in point, Guy Hamilton directed my favorite Bond film, Goldfinger, as well as the one I like the least, The Man with the Golden Gun. And while Terence Young set the stage and directed two classics, Dr. No and From Russia with Love, he also handled the less-than-great Thunderball and overall his work is marred by some clunkiness. Lewis Gilbert did a great job with massive sets, but look at the quality (or lack thereof) of his scripts; and John Glen was all over the map. I guess I'll stick to liking individual films and thinking less about the directors.
Some good posts. Terence Young, I guess I love Dr No because in some ways it reminds me in tone early on of Hitchcock's The 39 Steps - our introduction to the hero at a public place of entertainment, we only see his sleeve at first, then we relocate to his London digs. Tenuous comparisons I guess, oh, also the lack of music on the soundtrack for a lot of it.
I love Hamilton's GF, LALD and DAF, so he's up there too imo. Actually, all those early ones were great in their own way.
Terence Young, of course. All three of the Bond films he directed are in my top 5. I think he is rightly credited as the man who brought James Bond onto the big screen
Martin Campbell who directed both Casino Royale and GoldenEye. Thats my #1 and #2 Bond movies.

Terance Young, Martin Campbell ,Peter Hunt, Glen shouldn't IMHO have been let near a high budget movie especially a Bond movie and with Iron Eagle III I rest my case.
My favourite bond films seem to be directed by John Glen, so I'd have to say him

Was he GE and CR? I'd agree that he is the 'best', as he saved the franchise / rebooted the franchise twice, and effectively. While CR is not one of my favourites, it's obviously well-done. And GE is well-done AND brilliant

Yes, Martin Campbell deserves respect for GE and CR. Two excellent films that revitalised the series after its two longest hiati(is that the correct plural?), also introducing two new Bonds who weren't very good imo.
Also, check out Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson. It's a wonderfully well-made film.
