why were gadgets implemented into the films?

Ive read a few of the Bond Books and i dont recall any gadgets of any kind, im curious as why the films added in the gadgets that have become so synonymous with James Bond.

    In the novel Goldfinger Bond used the homing device to follow Goldfingers car as in the Movie, the producers just upped the range of gadgets for the entertainement of the audiance, I'd say. In other Books Bond did use equipment like geiger counters etc. Also in the world of real spys Gadgets do exist.

    They began to appear in the books, and they added spice to the proceedings. For FRWL the briefcase was turned into a fully loaded gadget and this played well with audiences. (No death pill in the handle though. Audiences have never really gone for that.) So on the next film they went a little bigger and so on.
