best bond on blu-ray?

mooneymooney DublinPosts: 7MI6 Agent
Hi,
New to the forum and also owning a blu-ray player!!
Main reason I went blu ray was to watch all the bonds in HD. Sorry if this was already asked but what are the 'must see' Blu ray conversions of the movies?
I saw QoS last night and it was fantastic so i really want more!!!

Thanks

Well QoS is said to be very good on blu-ray, you can see the fast-moving action better.

But the other, older Blu-rays get a bad press, Thunderball in particular being one to avoid, as it's not even as good as the Ultimate Edition DVD.

Dr No blu-ray gets universal praise so I would go for that and not bother with the others so much, they may get revamped or improved later.

In my opinion, Blu-Ray and 007 is a must!
Every movie shines in a better light on B-R!

I particularly enjoyed Dr. No and- I admit - Thunderball!

Can't wait to see the rest of them (especially OHMSS). So, people, when you have an HD TV, you MUST get a B-R player and the discs. It's well worth every penny I assure you!

im not rushing to best buy to get the Bond blu-rays anytime soon until they release Tomorrow Never Dies, ive read that the picture quality isnt much better then the DVDs and i find that i only buy films on blu ray that necessitate the best picture/sound quality such as Blade Runner,Alien and Apocalypse Now.

From what I've read in some tec mags, unless you have at least a 50 Inch tv You'll be hard pressed to notice any difference from an upscaled DVD and a Blu-ray.

Those magazines don't know what they are talking about or are looking at some poor Blu-ray conversions. There is a definite difference between DVD, upscaled DVD, On Demand HD, and Blu-ray. Most will talk about the sharpness. But what's really noticeable is the color depth, textures, and how light looks in HD.

Now on the Bond Blu-rays. I haven't picked up all of them. They changed the color in a few and I don't know if they are sticking with the changes from Lowry or will go back and correct them. We'll see what happens when they start releasing the Bond movies again I assume late this year or next year.

    That's absolutely crap!

I have a 40'' HD TV here and from every possible distance the difference between SD and HD is simply stunning.

    I also have a 60'' HD TV but that's a different story though :v

Before even Video came out ( Yes I really am that Old :# ) I used to sit with a Tape recorder and Record the Movies when shown on the TV. Meaning if anyone else was in the room they had to be quite or get Dirty looks from me.
Then I'd listen to them Back at night in Bed. I still have a couple of them in One of my Boxes of Bond stuff. So even watching them On DVD , I'm very happy. :))

Ha, I did the same! But Bond was only in the cinema at that time and ir annoyed me to hear all these silly comments from the audience.

And it was tough to find a pause without conversation to turn the tape after 45 minutes ;)

Casino Royale is consistently rated as one of the sharpest and best looking Blu Rays as far as must-owns go (and I don't mean just of the Bond movies, it is praised as a Blu Ray example in general as one of the early hits of the format). It has an intentional cinematic grain, but that of course has no effect on how beautifully sharp it is. As for the pre-reboot films, I have seen Dr. No and it was great. I thought it was a very sharp transfer.

Since camera resolution gets better over time the later films should look much better then the early films but even the older films benefit from Blu-ray.
