Does it really look good ?

I've come to the conclussion that DC's dark top, white bottomed look in QOS (Haiti/Italy Villa) was simply someone in production exercising their Steve McQueen fetish on DC because of the physical similarity of the two actors. A simple google image search on McQueen/William Claxton will produce numerous pics with this color combo.
Apart from the scene where the Haiti boat chase is concluding, I just don't think it's a good look....it just really chops the torso in two.
I have the original Y-3 jacket which I use quite a bit, but when I pair it with my White jeans, I just don't think it looks that great.
Am I alone in this opinion ?

    The Levi's Bond wears aren't white, they're a shade of creme and I think this outfit is far more balanced than his blue jeans, blue polo shirt with blue jacket ensemble.

    Men's outfits are better when splitting the body in two for casual wear. Dark top & lighter trousers especially when in a warmer climate.

    All blue looked ridiculous I thought, even though the items individually look great.

    Well from a girls point of view, I love the outfit he wears in Haiti.... the dark polo shirt and white jeans/levi's look really good - and a great combo of smart/casual.

    It does have a look of Steve McQueen, (no issues there ;) ) - but I think it shows off the polo shirt - with reg colour jeans it would compete with the denim, and you wouldn't notice it so much with dark ones. If you're going to splash out on a Sunspel, you might as well get it noticed. :))

    Just my opinion.... -{

    Agreed, and I wouldn't be spending so much time on these pants if they DIDN'T look good!

    Love both looks.

    Personally I love wearing the 7 Mankind jeans as very comfy, find the Star Prests very rigid and not a fan of them but they do look good!

    Interesting, welsh, because I asked about them on another thread.

    I'm also looking into perhaps getting a buck shoe instead of chukka boots, as they may be a little more versatile style-wise. Found some great chukkas in dark brown in Verona, Italy for 69EUR, but in the States the buck shoe is very in right now, and a dark brown suede one could have a similar fit to several of our Bondian ensembles.

    I love the look of the Sta-Prest pants, but I'm still hung up on the material of the CR trousers (Bahamas), because of their breathable, lightweight qualities (being linen pants), and have asked several online tailors if they could make a Sta-Prest tapered fit (without being too tight), but in a lightweight pant, and to NO avail.

    What is with the pants fetish on here at the moment??? :o

    I have a pair of Sta-Prest which look great with a Sunspel Riviera. I find them comfy enough for a warm evening out near the Mediterrean sea :p

    I feel that I should be more specific. I don't really think the BLACK looks good with the White (Okay, Cream) pants. Namely the Y-3 jacket and the Tom Ford cardigan.
    When DC is wearing the polo with the Levi's while breaking into the Haiti hotel room, it looks fine to me. But the Y-3 jacket (I have one and I love it !) contrasts too much with White jeans IMO.
    I think that the Y-3 (or Tom Ford) paired with the 7 for mankind jeans (Chilean desert) looks superb.

    I think the trousers look a little more white in the movie than they perhaps were. Personally I liked the look but we are all different in what we like. Cream also looks great with black so if you were after a similar look you have that option too.

    Watched QoS last night, I also think in the film they look more white then they really are (I own the sand Sta Prests however have non Sta Prest Silver birch Levis and they are not as bright white looking as the film)

    I like the dark polo/light Levis combo. I do tend to think the black Y-3 jacket doesn't complement the ensemble as well as is should, though it doesn't look that bad.
    Personally, I couldn't pull this off. I have very long legs and a very short torso. If I wear a dark shirt with light trousers or jeans, my upper body sort of disappears.

    No one seemed to mention that the jacket wasn't supposed to be Bond's - he took it from the man he just killed in the hotel, so obviously it wasn't meant to go with what he was wearing when he arrived. I actually thought this odd. I could understand if the dead man had this packed in his suitcase because he had either just come from a colder climate or was heading for one, but why would Bond take it and put it on in a hot climate like Haiti? To disguise himself as the dead man? That would be as realistic as putting a pair of Clark Kent glasses on. As far as the navy top light bottom look, I find it a classic look to wear in areas near or on the sea. However, not everyman can pull it off. For those of you who might not be in Craig's shape and have larger bottoms than tops, you might steer clear of any white or very light colored pants. Come to think of it, I've found that contrary to what many think, it IS the man who makes the clothes look good, because if they are out of shape and overweight, it's difficult to look good in anything. However, if you are in Craig's shape, you can get away with anything (even a speedo).

    - I also noticed the Craig/McQueen match. I saw a website that feature outfits McQueen is wearing in the 60's. A LOT of chukkas, jackets, light jeans, polos, etc. It really does seem like they are going for McQueens style with Craig in these films because they have similar looks.

    I would suggest that the jacket was worn to mask the fact that his clothing was ripped and blood stained. -{

    It looks great and there is nothing wrong with finding someone who can pull off McQueen ensembles.

    Yes the jacket wasn't Bond's but that doesn't stop the wardrobe people on set. I mean it fitted him well, amazing! :))

    No argument here about the jacket - it goes well with his outfit in those scenes. I forgot about him taking it to cover up his wounds and bloodied shirt - haven't seen the fight recently. It was an obvious, logical thing to do. No, there is nothing wrong with imitating McQueens "look" - especially if you physically resemble him. I always though it was a classic casual style (even then, so I'm dating myself!). Since Craig is a new cinematic reboot of the character for the 21st century, I think the wardrobe choices so far have been on the mark - simple, casual, yet quallity clothes.
